Just curious as to why this is downvoted to -2… hoping someone can explain.
Because these gateway laptops have been on sale for the last few months and there are hundreds of threads about them. General consensus is they are cheap and you get what you pay for. Bad build quality, often times they just die and never turn back on. Terrible keyboard/touchpad, they run hot, slow, and loud.
They are throw-away e-waste. Only buy one as a spare for traveling, or for any situation where you don't care if it gets stolen or broken.
I assumed ryzen 7 would ve better than i3, but looks like its not, the staples $250 hp would be better, the only downside is see is 256gb on the hp one vs 512gb here, but lowere build quality and worse processor

Can't help it for them to pass Walmart inspection, these Gateways are made for Walmart only. If this is what's requested, this is what we will get.

The cpu is 4 years old Ryzen 3000 series (current 7000 series) .
edit: well to be technical close to 4 years.

Greetings The RAM on the GWNR71517 can not be upgraded because it is built into the mother board. If any additional help is required with our products, please reach out to us via chat on www.gatewayusa.com, by phone at 1-877-777-0649 or email us at [email protected]. Our agents will gladly assist you.
Thank you for choosing Gateway.
Its a bummer because running single channel RAM on this processor (APU) basically cuts it's gaming power in half.

I'm not familiar with the performance of vega 10 but can say the iris xe igpu in the i5 model is very good. Cheaper than a nuc makes it a great little media server as well. Having two of those is what sold me to grab some of these as Xmas presents as the build quality seems decent and the i5's are sold out. But at $250 and extended holiday return window, seemed like a no brainer to me. I may gift one early due to a family member being away for Xmas. If so I'll try to run some benchmarks/comparisons between the two if anyone's interested.
But again, for productivity, general use, it's fast and functional. Runs windows 11, boots in 5 seconds or less, good display, finger print reader, had metal backing on monitor side (underside is plastic I believe), and crisp display. The only "ding" I can give it is no backlit keyboard and no hardwired ethernet, but at this price point Im not complaining and Ethernet can be achieved with a $10 adapter. Anything comparable (except maybe limited stock BF bait) is significantly more.
*Edit* I see price went up again. Glad I grabbed some when I could.
