Seems you may have some misunderstanding about the topic. The article you are referencing is NOT a breach. It's bad people using AirTags to track things or people maliciously. Bad people are deploying AirTags to track their victims. They are NOT using your own AirTag against you. Using or not using AirTags doesn't change your risk of being targeted.
I am an advocate for security awareness by the way, which I think that's what you're trying to do. But people should be armed with the correct information.
No disrespect but based on your logic you shouldn't buy any insurance either, I believe you never had a car accident or serious illness, and yet the risk is still something you probably don't want to take. Yes, Apple products are pricy, but you have to compare them to the alternatives, the only similar mainstream product to airTag is the Tile which is not nearly as useful as artTag.
Are we looking forward to losing our stuff, no, but a fail-save for what if it happens, yes. and this is exactly what your insurance is for.

It's been a while since I have seen a 4-pack for $80. Good deal, I don't think the packs have been cheaper. Some chase cards and Discover this quarter I believe have 5% CB for AZ as well.

My kid gave me one last xmas. Never opened it. I just don't have a use for it.
It is an Apple product I just don't believe in. Seems like a big tax to buy these things in hopes some day they pay off. I don't know if I would track down someone that stole my stuff anyway. Seems like a bigger risk.
Also for something like car keys or wallet, I have trained myself to not lose those things. Maybe if I was 20 again I might have a use case. But I haven't lost my keys or wallet in over 20 years. Never lost my luggage. I do not think I ever had a bike stolen. My kid did at college. I guess bikes thefts from dorm bike racks were high. Actually he just had his front wheel stolen so air tag wouldn't have helped. …
If you knew how many times my mom lost her keys and actually threw them away one time..
Trust me.. it's paid off.
I have an AirTag attached to my key ring. I've misplace my keys several times, and it saved me a lot of time and frustration. $80 for four is the cheapest price I've ever seen for them.
