Incredible that the price for this didn't change at all over the years. Bought this bundle four years ago for the same price at Gamestop - except that Gamestop threw in an additional $50 gift card back then.
Yeah, it's wild that people are still paying $300 for this. I can't really blame Nintendo for charging the same price if people are willing to pay, but still.

What's the alternative? I don't really know how to make them sell it for less.

Buying used, buying refurbished, buying a different console/platform, or just not getting one. People vote with their wallets, so if everyone is still buying them, then I guess the price must be fine.

The alternative is not buying old model for these misleading saving.

Wii U released at $300 for the standard 32gb model. When sale was not good. In later stage, Nintendo priced the bundle version like SuperSmashBros&Splatoon, or MarioKart 8 (Mario kart 8 still sells so well that Nintendo doesn't want to develop Mario Kart 9 even on a Nintendo Switch!!!) at $250. This later helped Nintendo promote the older games ported to Nintendo Switch.

As great fun as Mario Kart 8 is, for its age (initial release 2014 for Wii U), this is kind of game priced at $10 like classic from PlayStation, Xbox. If you haven yet played Mario Kart 8 for 8 years, then it doesn't hurt to wait longer for real discount. Price shouldn't go up for these kind of Mario Kart 8 bundle, even if it's an OLED model bundle.

Moral of the story is when the tech, and game is old, don't get desperate to purchase these bundle. If sale not great, Nintendo and many other companies would have to give out real discount for their older tech, and invest in R&D of newer tech, games.

My kids are pretty young, 8, 5 and 3. This will be their first console. How important is the OLED version? I honestly do not anticipate them playing it off of the TV all that much. I think I am going to get this bundle and then return it if a good deal on the OLED pops up. I appreciate your help.
OLED extra cost is worth the screen value and extra 32gb internal storage IF used mainly as portable.

Else, the functionality, gaming performance on TV is basically same.

If you buy it for kids, I suggest buying used console. I don't know how is your area like, but in my area, used Nintendo Switch ( same v2 model) in excellent mint condition can be found for around $150 on OfferUp. This Mario Kart 8 game cartridge is as low as $15 in some listing when buying multiple games

Kid may not upkeep their toys well, so it's better for you to save the cash, to get extra controller/ replacement than buying this kind of bundle for $300 + tax. This bundle doesn't have true saving value.

Do you think I can do better elsewhere this week? Want exactly this combo for my 10 year old.
Buying new. You should get this order now as insurance. Seeing the trend of Nintendo trend for last 4 years, the Black Friday discount unlikely get much better.

Value wise, buying this model v2 for kid, I would personally suggest buying used one if you can find one around $150 in excellent condition. Use the cash to get your kid the newer game (physical cartridge). The game cars hold the value better than this model v2 at this point.

Used you have to deal with battery degradation. Always nice to have this type of device fresh out the box where you get a clean battery and full warranty.

And while I typically agree about physical games, if there is one game on the system you go digital just based off usage and convenience, it's probably Mario Kart.

Comparing the Switch to the Wii U is so faulty. One device sold under 15 million units in it's lifetime and the other device has sold over 115 million units and continues to sell and be relevant. The ability to play games anywhere was the difference and the reason many games got polished, upgraded and ported over.

Mario kart 8 Deluxe was improved from the Wii U version with all the DLC tracks included, a superior battle mode, an easy mode for kids of all ages where they aren't falling off the tracks . . . And is currently in the process of getting 48 more tracks added via DLC (which is free if you are a Nintendo Switch Online expansion pass member). This is not the same game from the Wii U.

Mario games hold their value much better than "PlayStation classics". Another bad comparison.

I agree that as a Day 1 Switch owner, I'm ready for Switch 2, which probably would of been the OLED but COVID caused a major processor shortage and marketing a new console and trying to supply it at that time, when you couldn't even keep the current one in stock and they were being scalped heavy last Xmas, would of been silly . . . Not to mention the new system would of been scalped to death and impossible to get at MSRP.

This bundle is a nice easy Xmas bundle that does the job and offers some savings in a nice package. Not everybody wants to clean up a used system and wrap it with paper to hand to their kids.

Typically in December we see a gift card deal with the Switch, but the Mario Kart bundle is usually sold out by then.

Got 3 kids, gonna get switch for Christmas…what's a good remote for the 3rd ? The Nintendo pro controller is more than I want at $65. Kids will only have time to play switch leisurely, not sure they'd get $65 worth out of the pro remote. Looking for around $30 or less for a decent one that won't become frustrating due to "drift" that I keep seeing come up. So many out there.. any suggestions appreciated
