Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this has been the price for a while....
This time it works for old customers, last time is works only for new customers.
I like that Android phones are starting to get reasonable compact again

If we do this deal with trade in and activate sim do we need to keep phone for the whole 120 days or can we sell it before then? As long as the line is active and the sim is not put into any other phone then it would be OK to sell phone.
If the person activates the phone on fi you're going to be on the hook for $500.

I want to do this deal but not port in my number. Where can I get a number to port in that will qualify me for the discount on this phone?

Get a free Google Voice number for the Google account that you will use to order the phone. Port in from GV is seamless, takes about one minute at activation, and free.

Don't you have to activate that number for service with google before porting over?

Why not just get a Google Fi SIM, activate with a new number, wait a couple of days so their system sees you as a current customer, and then do this deal with only a 30 day requirement instead of 120?

No. I've done it with four Fi deals. Here are the steps:
1. Create a Google account if you don't already have one.
2. Get a Google Voice number for that account. There's no activation. You can use the Google Voice app to make a few calls (over WiFi) if it makes you feel better.
3. When placing your order, enter your GV number to use for port in. There's a function in that box to verify that the GV number is eligible.
4. When you receive the phone, set it up and download the Fi app to the phone. Run the Fi app to activate the phone and it'll start the process to port the number over. Takes one minute. See the clock on the attached screenshot below.

You might see posts from people saying they had to pay $3 to unlock/port from GV, but that's only when the GV number is being ported to a non-Fi provider or the GV number belongs to another Google account.

Its not recommended to sell the phone before the required time ends. The reason is that if the person you sell it to puts in a Google Fi sim (might be slim chance but you never know) it will F up your promo and Google can try and claw back the discount

This isnt as easy as the BB deal , because you cant sell a sealed phone and you techically have to wait some time

Thanks. That was helpful. Repped.

Thanks. 60 pages of detail here. Quick question. So can you still join fi first then buy the phone and only have the 30 day requirement before porting out? Anything to watch out for?

I know your questions are for ScottoDono, but time is of the essence here, so I'll reply so you can have time to do the deal before it's supposed to end after 12/31/22.

You can use the trick that some of us (including me) had used:
* Buy a BYOD Fi SIM at Best Buy for $10. Activate it with a compatible BYOD phone to become a Fi member. You can chose to get a new number, no need to port in for the BYOD SIM. Use a referral code here if you have one.
* Wait at least 24 hrs after activating the BYOD SIM, preferably 48 hrs, for Fi to recognize you as an existing Fi member before placing your order for the 30-day S22 phone.
* When the S22 arrives, activate with its installed SIM. It'll say that the number is currently on another phone (the BYOD phone), do you want to transfer service? Reply YES and it'll activate the S22 with a transfer from the BYOD phone and starts the 30-day countdown.

The Gotcha: Some people ordered the S22 too soon after activating the BYOD SIM and Fi didn't recognize the activation of the S22 as that by an existing Fi member. They're still trying to get that sorted out after more than a week.

Well, here's my "saga" for anyone who feels like watching; so instead of being a "new customer (aka port-in + 120 days), I decided to be a "current" customer. Update 12/29 -- the saga is complete! Now to start Saga #2 -- Pixel 7 for 60 days lol

* 11/23 - Purchased Fi SIM @ BB for $7
* 11/24 - Activated Fi SIM on Random Android Device. Was assigned a new number (after I picked area code). Used a referral code for hopefully 1 free month? Also I guess that the BB SIM is supposed to be $10 and I got a Fi plan credit of $10 (technically making the Fi SIM "free")
* 11/25 - Purchased S22 256GB for $350. Verbiage on promo page seems to show that I am a "current" customer and will need 30 *consecutive days*.
* 11/28 - Received S22 and activated with Fi SIM that came with S22 (already inside). Waiting for FI Account page to reflect activation status. Old phone SIM no longer works.
* 11/29 - Fi Account Credits page now shows phone as activated on 11/28, and I need to "Stay active on Fi for 30 more days"
* 12/12 - FI Savings In Progress - *Stay active on Fi for 17 more days". My phone has been off for a week
* 12/28 - Fi Savings In Progress - *Stay active on Fi for 1 more day". I have since then formatted my phone and blended the SIM.
* 12/29 - Fi Savings for S22 Promo now moved from In Progress tab to Earned tab! All 4 tasks have blue checkmarks.

My trade in finally got accepted after being delivered 2 weeks ago... I sent in a excellent condition so I wasn't worried about the trade in value. I was scared they lost it somewhere in their warehouse. Now I don't have to worry about it anymore.
Mine was delivered on Dec. 19th to their la vergne, tn center. As of today 12-29th, no inspection yet. The rep confirmed to me its in the engineers team now but ...no inspection yet

Not sure of buying another one. This S22 series has some kind of audio problem. I ended up exchanging for a new one but it still does.
