No, they most definitely are not. These are professional volleyballs made of much higher materials than the cheap ones you are referring to.

I bought the replica one a while ago and it really is just a beginner volleyball, but a good one. The material is pretty "soft" so doesn't sting the arms as much, which is probably the biggest turnoff for beginners. The replica ball is made from a man-made composite material while the professional one is made of leather. Big difference. Anyone new to volleyball or just wanting one for purely recreational use then the replica is the perfect ball to get, but for the more serious/competitive sand/beach player, the official AVP ball is the one to get.
