Google Store has the Pixel 6a as an even trade for the Pixel 5a (you only have to pay taxes). At only $21.88 oiut of pocket this is a no-brainer for me, as the 5a has known issues with the display (mine required a motherboard replacement).
Trade-in values for other Pixels were also good- for example
Pixel 3 i@ $197
Pixel 4 @ $245.
As always, YMMV since trade-in values can (and do) change often.

Now - I did speak to a google store CSR and he verified that my order did have the promo attached, and I would get the credit 4 weeks after the order was delivered. I guess he pulled a fast one on me.

All in all, I will have just paid tax for the Pixel 6a, but spent many hours with CS. I know I'm very lucky that this all worked out in my favor.
Also, I got 2 $100 credits for pixel superfan referrals. Note that these are not actually credits, but coupons that reduces the FULL PRICE of an item by $100. Only 1 coupon per order and it does not stack with any other coupon or discount. For example, assume the Pixel 6a is $50 off and with a retail price of $450 (so $400). If you apply the coupon, it will knock it down to $350 ($100 referral coupon does not stack with the $50 off, so you only get the $100 off from the coupon).
