So if you go the Amazon route, and then later give up your Amazon Prime account, do you lose the movie?

If you guys have paramount plus, and can wait then it will come out on 12/22. I had to have the physical media so bought the 4k steelbook earlier this month.

Buying the movie on Amazon will associate it to your Amazon account, but it's not tied to an active Prime subscription. In other words, you can't lose or "give up" your Amazon account access since the movie is tied to your account, but you don't need to pay for Amazon Prime to watch your purchased movie.
