Nice deal! The 10' looks great. Too bad they don't have the heavier model on sale for those into crab snaring Smilie I got the Pursuit IV recently and it appears to be a pretty solid reel

For anyone wondering 4000 is big for freshwater fishing. I would suggest dropping to 3000 for closer to a sweet spot when fishing freshwater.

I wish the 3000 was on sale. Been looking for a freshwater combo.

Fyi, the medium 4000 combo is a single piece rod. I was hoping it was a 2 piece rod so returned mine when I received it.

Never heard of crab snaring. So just some bait on the hook and let them latch on? Went crabbing for the first time this year and had a great time. Caught over 100, but only one was big enough.

What size reel on the 10'? 6000 or 8000? Can't find on site...

Edit: NVM found it!

6000 for the 9'
8000 for the 10'

Crab snaring is primarily thing in Northern California and Oregon. Basically, it's a small cage made with thick gauge metal wire with 6 retracting loops of heavy mono (or weed wacker line) attached. You fill the cage with squid or other scented bait, cast out (from the beach, pier, or jetty) with anywhere from 6-12oz or more in weight and then let it soak for anywhere from 5-15 minutes. You can't tell if a crab is on usually so you just go by time and then 'set the hook' like you would on a big fish and maintain pressure while winding (don't stop winding or let the line go slack or you'll likely lose the crab). You can usually feel the extra weight of the crab(s) if they were caught on one or more of the loops. This has become an increasingly popular activity up in NorCal especially. You will catch both Dungeness and rock crabs but Dungeness is obviously the more desirable catch. Off the beach, most people will snare Dungeness but at Pacifica Pier, people get a mix of both rock and Dungeness. It just depends on how far you cast out. If you drop down around the pier pilings then you'll likely end up snaring rock crabs.

Why can't they just take orders online and ship. Deals like this are annoying.

Would those be good for taking my boys fishing in lakes or rivers?

Just gonna add this:
Even the most expensive setup won't catch fish, if you're not where the fish are.
