Why can't there just be a bundle to get everything? Why do we have to keep track of which show suddenly switches to one of 400 subscription sub channels of something?..

If you like bundled leftovers, sure. All flagship content is exclusively on streaming.

Do these require the Roku app for streaming, and if so, is it any good?

Shudder is included in the AMC+ subscription in addition to Sundance Now and IFC Films.

I keep getting errors when I try to start a subscription. VERY unspecific: "An error has occurred"

because we didn't like it when it was just cable and we had to pay for everything regardless of what we want, and once we got what we wanted we realized it was not what we wanted after all.

Exactly. Back when cable was the only option, there were a lot of people who wrote articles and opinions on paying for each channel on its own. Cable was seen as a price gouging setup, pushing dozens of channels "no one wanted" with the few they said they did want. Add in the fees for services like HBO on top of those "basic cable" fees, and yeah, it was a lot of money to get only, in truth, whatever was showing on those 50 to 150 or so channels, at that time. It took a long time for Cable to come to DVR, too.

That was greed. How "pay me a few bucks for full access to my catalog of media" amounts to greed baffles me. Even the costs to transmit this media across the net is a lot higher than I suspect many people think, as one of many cost points.

In fact, I suspect we'll be seeing most of these services die out over the next few years, especially if there's a full blown recession in the US and/or Europe. So you might want to enjoy while you can.
