There is nothing inherently wrong with a plastic tub. Plus, it is 300 installed with a 4 year warranty. This is same type of person that complains on laptop threads about cheap devices not having ssd or a better gpu.

Wait til your heating element malfunctions and burns the plastic tub and almost starts a fire like mine did. Lucky I was home. I will never have a plastic tub for this reason I don't care how cheap the dishwasher is. Not worth the risk IMO.
I've managed rental properties for 15 years with dozens of plastic tubs. Never seen this happen once. Also, consumer reports doesn't even list that as an issue with any dishwasher I've seen. So you're lying or are one of the extremely few people this has ever happened to.

Not sure how this one stacks up, buy I needed one and for 499 I get the install and haul away. Would have gotten this 299 one if it was in stock

Depends. If you use heated dry and do a lot of loads, you run the high likelihood of deforming the plastic, which will eventually cause a leak where the heating element leads go through the tub. Typically it's a cheap threaded nut made of thin brass with a cheap rubber washer, which keeps you from having a costly leak. Those nuts can also crack, assuming from heat cycling and/or corrosion from moisture.

The leak starts as a small drip. You likely won't notice. Over time it will get worse. By the time you notice, your subfloor will be saturated, your cabinetry will have started to soak up water from the subfloor and your laminate/wood floor will have started to buckle.

I'm not sure if they make shallow tubs to put under dishwasher (similar to what they have for washing machines) but that would be a good investment, paired with a cheap moisture alarm. Crazy that a lot of units make use of a 15¢ part that can cause $1000s in damage if it fails.

Ok guy. I actually bought a place in 2015 that was built in 2007. On our home inspection report, they noted our dishwasher was recalled because the heating element was known to malfunction.

My sister had her plastic tub leak where the heating element leads go through the tub. She used heated dry and did 1-2 loads a day (family of 6). When I came over to diagnose it, I could see the tub was deformed and confirmed water leaking from bottom of unit at the heating element.

If you want to live in a world where heat doesn't affect plastic, keep right on doing that. People that use their dishwasher once a day or more and also use heated dry are absolutely at risk of a leak. It's a simple fact that plastic and heat don't get along.

I mean... The "high likelihood" of this happening is slim to none, is not listed in consumer reports, and they use those same washers in thousands of units across their lines. They aren't using better washers their stainless steel interior units. I did a control F ojn their reviews and not one person mentions what you and the dude saying "your plastic interior will melt". Again, I've had rentals for over 15 years and have never had this with dozens of machines. To each their own, but this machine at this price is an amazing deal.

Then move along if you don't like the deal. No one else in consumer reports for this or the similar models from the last 4 years have mentioned this.

Funny that you are getting downvotes. We bought a condo in 2015, which was built in 2007, and on the inspection report it stated our dishwasher was recalled due to an issue with the heating element malfunctioning, that it could do exactly what you described.

It took roughly 7 years for this issue to develop with heavy use and heated dry. I'm not saying it will happen immediately. For people who are using their dishwasher a lot and use heated dry, it is probably a better option to go SS tub. I'm pointing out a specific use case, yes, most people won't have an issue because they aren't heat cycling their plastic tub daily or twice daily.

Simply pointing out a potential issue for people who work their DW. The avg Joe need not worry, something else will break before you get tub issues.

Slickdeal pro tip: on these clearance items at Costco, be sure to check the price for 30 days after you buy them even if sold out as they sometimes lower the price and you can apply for a refund of the difference. I did this on the Kenmore dryer in October and got $107 credited back a week later

Plastic tub guys... but I suppose if you get another Costco dishwasher 4 years from now this kind of makes sense...
. In my experience, 10 other things will break and wear out and be beyond it's useful life long before the plastic tub will become an issue. I only had one non plastic tub and use heat dry and average probably 6 loads a week.

My must have for a dishwasher is a mulching type disposer and not just a filter. To my that is the single most important option.

That's a plastic tub too. I've not seen a good stainless steel tub below $600 lately.
