Has anyone had luck getting the AER TP3 Small by as a Personal Sized item on flights?

Trying to find a great bag for One Bagging on quick trips without paying the baggage fees that cost as much as the flights now.
Yes, that's exactly what I do.

I one bag travel with the Aer TP3 small in black and have had no problems. Fits under the seat of both the major and budget carriers.

4lbs...that's my problem with these high end bags. They are all quite heavy. I have a Wandrd PRVKE 31L and that's 3.4lbs and that's plenty heavy. I also have a Legion 7 with their 5lb charging brick. Turns into serious weight.

This is no doubt the Yeti brand of hyped retail products for the gullible and privileged trying constantly to figure out how to differentiate themselves from other people, besides having, say, actual talent.
Yikes, mans is going through it this Thanksgiving week 😂

If you need to guarantee personal item you need to go smaller; this will NOT fit under an airline seat fully packed. I have a Kelty which is 32L and about 2" shorter and I still have to leave the top unpacked to fit in the largest under-seat spot. It doesn't have a prayer in a us domestic seat with a power brick or on and aisle/window on Ryan to Play.

That said, I flew 7 segments in September with 3 on personal-item-only flights with that Kelty stuffed like a Christmas sausage with no questions from airline staff. For a bigger guy (6' tall, 46" jacket) this size pack will mostly hide behind you as long as you pretend it's 5-7kg, not loaded to 12kg.

FWIW, after my recent trip I'm swapping my Kelty for an Osprey 40L full carry-on with a Swiss Gear 3598 Citypack - https://www.swissgear.com/swissge...pack-black connected piggy-back style.

The Swiss gear is my "personal item", but can double as a 2-day excursion all by itself. My 13" Spectre 360 fits neatly into the pack, my power pouch and mini Dopp kit fit in the main area with space for one change of clothes, and the front pouches are numerous and just enough space for carry-on stuff and quick access items (the phone/watch/passport pouch for security is nice). Plus it has an outside pouch for my glasses and a sleeve for a water bottle. Its 1" taller than the Ryan Air definition of personal item, but easily tucks down to fit in the tester or under-seat.

I've had another Swiss gear soft briefcase for close to 20 years and it's still in good shape; the city pack seems built pretty well for $40-50.

You will need a separate bag so you can smuggle illicit material and ask a sucker to carry it over for you! lol

Comparison isn't fair (price and design wise compared to the Aer), but my current go-to is my Tom Bihn Synik 30 for its lightweight ness and sleek design as an everyday travel backpack. The Aer Travel Pack 3 is good for what it is, but it definitely stands out in terms of size and weight (you can see from their images how big it is). It makes sense though as it's trying to max out a personal carry-on size for air travel while also being versatile in utility e.g. as a briefcase. My main concern as others have mentioned here is the weight of the bag. You don't always need 3-4 pounds of extra fabric. It might not seem like much, but using it every day you'll notice it (similar to a laptop). All that extra fabric has to be stuffed and zipped off when not in use. On top of that, most people I'd argue are concerned with how a bag fits their structure and looks (as am I). The best way is to see the bag and try it on to see if it matches your expectations (in-store is the best). The goal of a one-bag-fits-all solution for everyday life is honorable, but it is similar to a multi-tool.

How is this compared to the LTT backpack?
This one has actual reliable warranty, not the same.

Agree, a jack of all trades, but a master of none bag. For anyone considering this, it is a great bag if you must have a all-in-one, but you'd do much better with two separate bags designed with a specific purpose.
I agreed. I have this one as my daily drive to work for a year now. Great for pens, iPad and laptop, some light (I mean really light jacket) and chargers, maybe some cold drops/sweet here and there.

Warning: the inside compartment is really thin, REALLY THIN

I've had the travel pack 2 for a few years and just ordered the travel pack 3 small for my personal item on flights. Don't plan on packing it full so hopefully it'll fit under seats ok. I also use a flight pack 2 for a personal item and it works great. Love my Aer bags!

May I ask why you need the TP Small if you are happy with the FP2 already? I ask because I'm trying to decide between TP Small and FP3!!

Thanks

My back feels your pain, brother. I do the same. Had to buy a smaller Anker charger that runs at 130w over USB C. Helped a lot in reducing the weight. I throw my 300w charger into my pelican work box which gets checked in when I'm flying. Great laptop, but the downside is the dang weight.

FWIW this has not been my experience. I've one bag traveled with the Aer TP3 Small fully packed on Spirit, United and American with no issue.

It was tight getting it under the seat on Spirit but I still managed to cram it under. No issue with the other carriers.

I typically pack my work laptop, iPad Pro, mirrorless camera, over ear headphones and clothes for the week. I also pack the Aer day sling max 3 inside my TP3 which I use as a daypack when I arrive at my destination.

I have the peak design travel bag that's bigger and used it across Europe and Asia. I just put it in front of my legs on the airplane, but it's friggin tight depending on the plane you fly. In general not an issue at all tho some European planes are small. There's usually room up top. I'm gonna bite on this because peak design has terrible non cushioned straps, Aer Tp2 was so comfortable when I wore it a few years ago and now this is the TP3 I'm sure this is even better overall. $200 is not much for a bag, if some people say it's overpriced then go pay $50 for Herschel or Jansport, you get what you pay for quality. This is why I drive a Lexus and not a Toyota. Regardless this is a deal for those looking, salty people should make suggestions for better travel bags or just gtfo

Ah, I was referring to the linked pack - the 35L - 9x13x21.5, which is sufficiently larger to not fit unless you plan on packing it less than 3/4 full. My 32L (~8.5x12x19.5) won't fit in under the middle seat of an Airbus 320 Neo (AA) where the power brick is, but will fit under the aisle seat where there are no obstructions - the AER3 full size is another 2" longer.

That's a lot of gear to fit in 28L, even with the best possible organization. Most people wouldn't have any volume left for clothing. It's a good thing they never weigh personal items!

Swing the extra $$$ for the X-Pac version IMHO... if you are already spending $200+ on a backpack, you might as well pony up for the heavy duty fabric that will last much longer
