This phone is currently $1/mo x 36 months with no trade-in from AT&T. Not familiar with the unlock and other policies, but if you're looking for a cheap iPhone 12 mini on ATT it's a no brainer.

(Normal disclosure: best deals on ATT/Verizon require 4+ phones - I, like many others who are eligible for their most advantaged discounts pay ~$35/line for their top of the line elite plan).

Yes you can. I did this recently with a Straight Talk iPhone 11 from Walmart. I used the cheapest plan at $35/month. Now it's fully unlocked so I moved to Mint Mobile's $15/month plan woot

Thanks for all the replies. My goal is to move it to Tello, for my kid, and my wife and I are on old, cheap T-Mobile plans, so AT&T wouldn't make sense. I'll look into rebranding the SIM. I was hoping if it was Straight Talk, I might be able to get away with something cheaper than $20 per month. We pay $7/month for texting, calling, and limited data (for MMS) for our son.

Doesn't that require commitment of 36 months for AT&T postpaid at like 90 bucks a month?

I just chatted with Tracfone, and this appears to be a legit temporary solution to get to unlocked in a couple of months without paying $30 to $35 a month for very basic service (limited or no data). Any caveats I should know about? I've also seen this same deal locked to Simple, and I assume there's no benefit to that deal (and maybe it's worse).
