Having had both, I would say this version is much easier to set up and seems to work more seamlessly with less hassles. I gave away my black one and replaced it with a white one because it's much more reliable with my opener. Fortunately, the black one works ok for the person I gave it to.

I would always choose the white one over the black one for a new purchase, but if you aren't having problems, it may not be worth replacing it either...

What I meant was getting it working with overhead door brand garage opener .. I had got the black version and was not able to pair with hub.. trying to find if same problem exists with white one

You can always add something like this. Was not able to get my Genie (from another slickdeal) to work consistently, but also didn't want to live without MyQ. So, this was the fix...just paralleled it with the door push button contact.

That's not correct at all for this unit. There is a unit like that, but this isn't it.

Found out two weeks ago that these don't work for all brand of garage door openers. They have a list of compatibility on their app

Yes, I have two Overhead screw type openers from mid 2000. It was difficult setting up initially about 4 years ago (black model -1st gen). About a month ago it was not connecting to the router so I performed a hard reset. Both times it took multiple attempts and going through the setup procedure to finally send the code from the MyQ hub that the opener would recognize while in the learning mode. I wonder if it was updating it's database in the background hence the failed attempts initially even though the steps taken were identical. Must have been like 5+ attempts/reboots. Once the first door was synced, the second door was immediately recognized both times (reason why I wonder if it's updating behind the scene). Good luck and I hope you get it to work.

I have this. Works good, but full disclosure there's a VERY loud obnoxious tone that goes off any time you use the app to open or close the garage. If you trigger it with your regular garage opener there's no tone.

You can make it work with almost any device with a push button if you want to, but it's an added cost. I ended up adding it because my Genie wasn't working with it consistently, and I figured I'd use the device for some other project when my opener finally dies again.

Yes, I call that the "lawyer tone". They added that I'm sure to let anyone know the door is closing by their app. If they didn't, some lawyer would sue them when someone got squished by a closing door, even if they were doing something really stupid...

That's for safety which makes complete sense. Saved me one time when being on a ladder near the garage door and hearing the beep when the gf was opening the garage

As of last year, this didn't work with Alexa. There was a subscription for a while, and then a 3rd-party workaround, but I ended up going with Genie's version of this instead. Alexa support is free right out of the box with it. https://a.co/d/3dMLmpj

Got one last year and works great with Genie. Paired with Home bridge and home assistant and setup to automatically open when my phone's near.
