I don't know if I'd be investing into the echo platform these days with everything that's happening with that sector of Amazon.

The whole echo platform has lost Amazon $10billion this year alone. They are cutting employees from the company who work the division and echo users are noticing the platform being way less reliable since.

I have not noticed any change in reliability.

I cant imagine the echo platform is intended to generate income? How would it? I have never used any of the devices to do anything other than control devices or play music.

Its obviously a data collection device from their end

Every tech company is cutting right now. Not sure if that alone is a sign the platform is on its way out. 80million users is no small feat. That's a very large user base.

Nor I. They'll probably slow down/stop adding new features and new versions of the physical hardware but the existing devices are still the same as they were the day before that news dropped. Ditto the servers that manage the back-end. They're all running on under-utilized S3 cloud hardware that Amazon has to maintain anyway*.

*Either because it's reserve capacity in storage for when other hardware goes down or when demand spikes (Black Friday has entered the chat), or it's as-of-yet unsold capacity that's been built out awaiting new customers for their cloud services.

This. It's one of those 'ecosystem' things that helps their main product (the Amazon store) better convert visits into sales: Did I ask my Alexa if it's going to rain? Did the device say "Yes, it'll rain."? I wonder why the website is now featuring umbrellas and raincoats.

These have been a game-changer for me. I can add to task-lists whenever something comes up, I can have phone calls or podcasts without anything blocking my ears, and the phone call microphone quality is amazing. Also, at least for my head, super comfortable, and I come from super-minimal half-rim metal frames.

That said, battery life SUCKS. 2 hours of phone or BT audio. I can get through most a whole day if I just use it for voice commands.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm ordering a second pair, so I can have one charged while wearing the other.
