I've never bought silicon lids so I can't comment. The main problem I've seen with the plastic lids is people leaving the lid on in the microwave so that it forms a seal and kind of gets suctioned onto the bowl. This deforms the lid and can damage it. I always leave it in the microwave but leave a gap so there's plenty of airflow.
