Good deal, but not letting me check out? "There was a problem. An error has occurred while attempting to process your order. Please try again or check back later.". Guess I'll try again later....

Be careful with H&R Block and TaxAct. They were sending tax return data to Meta and Google.

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/22/popular-tax-prep-software-sent-financial-information-to-meta-report.... [cnbc.com]

the software sent information like names, email addresses, income information and refund amounts to Meta

Just to confirm, checkout is still showing 5% back for everyone, right? They don't show the 20% back during checkout?
It shows the additional 20% for me. Under the credit card area, it states "Earns 5% Back - items with additional rewards". Click on the "items with additional rewards" and it shows 20%.

showing as available but getting the checkout error on both Amazon Prime and Store cards. Want to use credits as well.
Hm it isn't for me. Been refreshing the page continuously. But this gives me hope that it's probably just some technical glitch and we might see it appear at some point during the day.

Downloaded and activated no problem.... deluxe + state $22.32 + tax. Probably can get it a few bucks cheaper, but I'd rather be done with it.....
I'm not seeing the deluxe+state download option.

This so called "flat tax" would effectively a regressive tax where the burden would predominately fall on lower income earners.
The "low income earners" making most of their income on stocks an capital markets will be the most hit, indeed. ("A capital gain rate of 15% applies if your taxable income is ... less than or equal to $445,850 for single...")
Quote from slipperydick :
What would simply the tax code is a progressive tax, removing the 35% cap and closing loopholes for the super wealthy.
Unfortunately any non-flat scheme, or any kind of caps or floors will require everybody to chase their tails with tax calculations, deal hunting for tax software like we all do in this thread, and bigger IRS staff. All of this is basically a hidden tax. Read the book I linked to, "Economics in one lesson". Written in 1946.

I ended up doing the code-by-mail. Still eligible for 20% and it actually let me place the order.

Your point is well understood, yet flat tax beats the current system.
Cafeteria plans, 509 plans, and even 401K is another huge waste of productive time (US staffed call centers, systems to maintain it, documentation and "education" materials, etc).
Nobody thinks of low income. This is all an illusion created by the politicians to get re-elected. Canceling any of this is a political suicide, so nobody will ever do it, flat tax included.
But then why stop there? Many 'high tax' states are at least partially that way due to the need for them to support many other (often red) states that in turn offer lower taxes to corporations to get them to move there. Why not level the tax so states get back what they pay in federal taxes?

Hm I'd do this but as soon as I select the "code by mail" variant the 20% off disappears for me.

EDIT: it shows on the checkout page

Do yourself a favor and never buy this garbage software from H&R block. Tried it last year after years on TurboTax. Had a miscalculation, ended up having to pay additional state taxes and I have yet to hear back from them on their "software error guarantee". Now don't get me wrong, I hate both of these companies for lobbying to keep the tax code so complicated. But this software is an abomination and don't get me started on their nickel and diming upcharges for states and e-file. Recommendation: AVOID at any cost.

HR gets my VA state tax wrong every year and I've been using it for over a decade.

Bummer. Wanted to use digital credits but couldn't get order to process so purchased physical code. 20% back on top of the sale price was too good to pass up. You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal than this and now I don't need to watch the many SD's that pop up on tax software.

I don't think you understand what "flat tax" is. With a flat tax, there are no tax brackets. Everyone pays the same percentage. Whether you make $1 or $1,000,000,000.

Amazon is a basket case - if I try and order download it asks me to re enter my cards 3 digit number - then sez "invalid" I switch to mail code and takes me right to checkout completion page - no validation required - so it isnt just amazon cards cause I don't have one...
