Honestly if you owe the state paying $1-$2 dollars to send a certified mail of your taxes around April 15th is cheaper than having it drained ASAP.

Amazon had a better price on bf weekend @45 with $10 Amz gift card, this usually comes back later around Xmas if you want to chance it as the Costco deal will stay a while

means the state efile product is worth $0 for those whose state has no income tax, or if your state does have an income tax but it is New York (efile is already free). Does that help?

If it was a brand new product yes I agree. But TT engine has not really changed in >20 years.

Yearly updates involve updating some threshold values here (eg exemptions, income limits, contribution limits etc) as well as create limited set of conditional rules for any brand new tax legislation.

It's like antivirus software, the original investment was large but has already been recovered years ago. Yearly cost to update is relatively low.

It's a huge margin competitive space once the original software development cost have been recovered.

My reading is that the $10 discount is applied within TurboTax when you pay for Audit Defense or an additional state filing.

Deal seems dead on both Costco and Amazon, back up to $55. Oh well! Waiting for after Christmas and will check both again. Honestly, who wants to work on taxes before holidays anyway, especially if you're awaiting all your W-2/1099s/brokerage stuff still 🙈

Quick Google Shopping followup shows it still for $40 at this place, without any credit or freebies, but I'll still wait for after Christmas & check Amazon or Costco again lol. I feel like every year, it's always cheaper after XMas/the new year. Still no rush!
