Consensus for older models is that V10 > V8 > V11…13 > V7 (paraphrasing older posts on the dyson vacuums from slick deals). This ranking is based on pure value. Newer models have some fancy features but have significant costs.

V10 and V8 are comparable. V10 has a great design and sucks hard. V8 is the easiest to open and empty and balances battery life and power.

Everyone here agrees the fluffy head is a game changer. I love it.

Just got this over all the other Dyson vacuum deals(older and newer) the past few days. Did too many hours of research to finally decide on this. If you're in the market just buy this because I did all of the research for you.

I have a refurbished one that I purchased after being front-page here a few years ago for ~$240ish. It was refurbished by Dyson and sold by Walmart. I've had my fair share of vacuums over the years because my mom was so abusive when using them so I know a good quality vacuum when I see it. This has been by far the most disappointing vacuum I've ever encountered. It was great the first few months but that was short lived. The suction is barely there and I've tried just about everything. Cleaning the filter (which is a very frequent maintenance requirement), clearing the valves inside, and making sure there's no obstruction inside - nothing seems to make it perform the way it did before. It'll suction particulates enough to keep them off the ground but the second I turn it off, I can literally hear everything falling back into the ground. I only had a 6-month warranty since it was refurbished so trying to contact Dyson was of no help. Hopefully I just had a lemon but if you purchase this and have any doubt in its suction abilities, then I wouldn't recommend you keeping it, especially at $400.

You get a place to keep your Dyson, not necessary near a wall. You have a convenient place to store all your accessories, so they can actually be used. Finally, there are only incremental improvements between versions of Dyson.

That was a better deal than this especially for someone looking for a slimmer Dyson. V12 detect basically matches the performance of the V15 in a smaller size. Some find this variant too bulky.

I was tempted to wait for another deal like that for the v12 (missed the one last night) but decided to pull the trigger on this after watching the video about the docking station.
