Hasn't been this price for a refurb since last holiday season.

Z50 is an insane camera for this price.
I've bought half a dozen refurbished bodies and lenses from Nikon and they are all excellent. you may find a minor cosmetic blemish , and the warranty is limited but the quality is top knotch . totally worth saving 400-500 especially for amateur equipment

Z6 is a huge step up in performance. Pro grade vs consumer grade. While I'm a Nikon shooter, their warranty work is a big step down from Canon and why I won't buy the Nikon refurbs.

Z6 with the 24 70 f4s is probably the best deal going at $1400 since i bought mine kit for $2200 several months ago..I also won't go back to dx...it's my phone and FF z6 with glass!!!.
Z6 is comparable to which of the Sony FF? A7ii? A7iii?

What is the return policy on this please?
Nikon Store Return Policy

Return Requirements
In order to be eligible for return and refund, merchandise must be in the original packaging with all supplied components provided with the merchandise (including but not limited to batteries, chargers, cables, software, manuals, warranty cards and/or hang tags), and must include a copy of the invoice/packing slip. Shipping and processing charges from the original order will not be refunded unless the merchandise is defective, as determined by the Nikon Store in its sole discretion.

All returns must be accompanied by a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. To receive a RMA number, please call the Nikon Store toll-free at 1-800-NIKON-US (800-645-6687) from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

We strongly recommend shipping merchandise via UPS or other delivery service that provides tracking information and insurance. The customer is responsible for any merchandise lost or damaged in transit to, and until it is received by, the Nikon Store. Shipping and processing charges for returned merchandise are the customer's responsibility.

Any merchandise received without a properly displayed RMA number, or that otherwise does not meet the requirements of this policy, are unauthorized returns and will be refused and returned to the sender of origin.

Totally yes, I wouldn't trust Nikon to fully support crop mirrorless with a good lens selection, plus you get in body stabilization and of course full frame.

I've bought the two lens DX50 refurb here a few months ago. My Shutter count was 1.
I also bought a used FTZ adapter. Sold my D7500 used for 100 less than I paid refurbished 25k clicks ago.
This is great deal if you have nikon dx lenses and or prefer Nikon.

Any thoughts on the Z50 vs D7500? I love my D7500 and when I researched it, the Z50 didn't seem like a no-brainer, there seemed to be some tradeoffs.

I'm holding out for a Z6 or Z6II, waiting for there to be more lenses and cheaper.

I bought the z50 with the 2 kit lens new for $999 a couple of years back. Love it. Turns out I've been doing 4K vids with this the most. Barely use it for photographs. Only downside is the 30min limit but otherwise a fantastic 4K video camera. For $850, even refurbed, is a great deal for the z50 with the 2 kit lens. Highly recommended!

Z50 vs D7500 for a still shooter

Z50
Cons
No shooting speed mode dial, now a menu. More cumbersome.
A few less buttons.
No top display. Not a big deal for me
Battery not as good, but have yet to run out. Bought a third party 2nd at $30? Something I did for the 7500 as well.
No wired remote. BT only. Knock off works fine, costs $20. I prefer wired on tripods.
The rest of the controls are intuitive if you have Nikon back grounds.

Pros:
Significantly more compact size, same good sensor.
Better AF, more shots in focus.
Touchscreen Focus Point and shoot. Use that a lot and like it.
The EVF shows the shot before you do it and the EVF is better than expected.
Great travel size. Might sell my Pana ZS-200 as well.
Battery life is good.
All my F mount lenses work with full functionality with the FTZ.
Snapbridge app actually works.
My 70-300 AFP VR takes more in focus wildlife pics with the DX50 and FTZ than they did with the D7500.

All over I am happy. I initially somewhat planned to keep the 7500, but it made no sense.

I think I told you before, I wanted a smaller body and didn't really want FF since the lenses would larger no matter what the body size. My cameras are on planes a lot.

For my case the DX50 has been just right. The kit lenses are actually decent.

Over the z50? It's A big upgrade but if it's worth it probably depends largely on what you are doing with it, keep in mind lenses cost more on full frame but you also get better access to better lenses as there are less crop Nikon z mount lenses.

Do you happen to know the shutter count on most of these refurbs?

ā€‹Does shutter count even matter anymore, especially for mirrorless? I thought shutter count only counts mechanical shutter, not electronic. I know people who strictly use electronic for silent operation. Also video does not count into the shutter count I believe since it uses the e shutter too. So shutter count on cameras like this won't give you an accurate idea on usage. You can have a 0 shutter count but still take 1000s of pictures with the electronic shutter as well as 1000s of hours of video.

Very helpful thanks! Bummer about the missing dial, that seems like a cheap way of forcing you to a higher body.

it depends if you are looking for a camera or a lens platform I'll explain.

If the plan is to have a nice portable camera with great controls & quality , this is a great option. But don't plan on using any other lenses (with any practicality)

But many who are trying to get into photography need a lens platform (e.g. Nikon Z-Mount, F-Mount or Sony E-Mount). Nikon only offers 2 APS-C Z-mount lenses, and they are both mediocre (though quite good for the price). I would recommend either going full frame (Nikon Z5) or picking another APS-C system like Sony A6xxx or Fuji.

If you buy this camera you'll be stuck with the two lenses unless you get an expensive & clumsy adapter and bulky Z-mount lenses.

Unless you want to just stick with the kit lens, get a Z5, Z6 or go with another brand's APSC options.

I personally prefer A6xxx series because there are stellar lenses by Sigma & Tamron
