Even if you move the whole 1TB, we're talking about the difference of ~15 minutes.
I'm not important enough that 15 mins is worth $30, especially when I can just leave it and do something else
In some cases it may even be better to just buy a cheap 1TB NVME stick and an enclosure instead.

It would work fine just you might notice some stuttering when it's loading a new part of the map.
The best method would be some sort of Thunderbolt NVME enclosure, if such a thing exists (never researched it) and your laptop supported Thunderbolt.

Yes, there exist nvme enclosure w thunderbolt port but it doesn't come cheap.

And how reliable are these kind of HDDs? I wanted to switch the least year with one of these guys, but I still have some resistance to the change from mechanical drives to big SSD, this because I still have 10+ years mechanical drives who are rock solid when I plug them again to browse old photo/video backups, and I had some bad experiences with these kind of SSD drives.
