For those without Costco membership, the $250 deal from Target (w/ $50 gift card) is the absolute best deal.

Yeah don't know what you're talking about, the Microsoft store has titles on sale quite frequently discounted anywhere from 15-80%. What you mean to say is the games you want to buy at a particular time aren't being sold at a discount.
As for why retailers are pushing the Series S so much, your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps there is more inventory of the Series S, so more to sell? For the price, many think it's a very affordably-priced console. But if it doesn't have the games someone wants, it is not a good deal.
I did 2 years, so figure I'd have 2 years of game pass for about $110. Cheaper than buy 2 new titles. No need to worry about discs

Yeah I guess you could say that, the popular games that are on sale at the big stores usually are not on sale through Microsoft….yeah some older games are on discount
