This will be the first year that I have significant capital losses. Will Deluxe be able to handle this or should I wait for Premier? TurboTax's website of course suggests premier.

In the past deluxe did it. I believe you can only deduct $3k/yr but rollover?

and not for IRAs?

I paid $45 for premier + $10gc on December 29th last year. Think we'll see this deal again?
I'm waiting on that deal too.

I'm curious about this too. If you choose the download only option (ie no gift card bundle), the return policy info is not displayed

if the IRS knows how much I owe, why not just send me a bill?
Why not do something more productive and whine at your congressional reps rather than in a random internet forum

Yes I switched to deluxe some years ago. Premiere is really only for those with rental incomes (depreciation and such) and some business stuff. And you get better support.

Deluxe will be $25ish between now and Feb. Fidelity also gives you free premiere if you are $1million+ but probably a lot of people aren't there anymore Frown
Deluxe is fine for rental properties. If you are self-employed or pay employment taxes for a household employee then I think you need premier.

It's not junk depending on what you need. For us Turbotax deluxe* is very easy to use with our particular Schedule C business and easily imports our brokerage account information. I tried H&R block one year and I could not get it to properly calculate our business tax credits even after opening a support ticket.

Also - an FYI for those that used TaxAct, H&R Block or TaxSlayer online services in previous years: There is a good chance they secretly sent data about you to Meta\Facebook:
https://arstechnica.com/tech-poli...with-meta/

*In previous years there were some abilities you'd get with the physical disk that weren't included in the download copy. I haven't looked this year to see if that is still the case or not
Isnt premier the one to use if you have brokerage/investment accounts?

I thought the same until I tried to file via the free option and compared to the result from the paid TurboTax. The free file was just miserable, no hand holding. The sections that TurboTax would skip by asking a simple question, in free file you have to decipher it yourself. But also, my refund amount was dramatically different. Free file has me owing the feds 1k (which is why I wanted a "second opinion") while in TurboTax, the feds owed me money. TurboTax managed to find a significant deduction/credit that you wouldn't even know about in free file, which kind of feels like bullshit, like how am I supposed to know that.
In a way, it's kind of like representing yourself in court vs having a lawyer. You can definitely become competent in either if given enough time to study but you to ask yourself how much your time is worth, as you only have a finite amount.

What did you use?

I use https://www.freetaxusa.com/ and it ask for everything pretty clearly. Used it for a couple years after credit karma went to a new company with no problems.

I choose the disc version for this reason. I can possibly ship it back and they accept it as the seal isint broken.? 🤔. Anyway we don't need it till Mar - Apr 2023. So just put it away in a safe place.

I thought I heard someone say it's better to buy in December for TurboTax, is that right? Or is my memory wrong.
