Cons - has a tendency to nose over when learning to land in the grass and the tip of the tail vertical stab takes the hit when it does that - I needed to attach a springy plastic to prevent further damage. The wheels would need to be re-aligned (pulled forward) once in a while. Also the battery hatch is at the bottom, not the most convenient position.

I'm thinking about the 4 hobbies I started this year… 2 unfinished books, welding project 1/2 done, car restoration not started … In for 1!

Every R/C plane will eventually crash. It's part of the hobby. It happens to the best pilots. Knowing this will temper the pain.
Suggestions:
1st: Install and use the sim. Learn to fly in the sim. Don't play with the plane. Leave it in the box until you have flown in the sim for a few days.
Flying toward yourself isn't natural and you will screw it up and crash the plane. Everyone does it. But in a sim, you hit reset and start over and save $100's. After flying for a bit, you figure it out, but it isn't something you can expect to overcome your first flight with everything you need to deal with at that moment. Practice from the ground position. Practice the pattern. Learn to land.
2nd: Join a local flying club (and the national AMA). Everyone will want to help you. It's part of the fun.
3rd: Fly the plane at a real flying field. Don't try at your local park. It's likely too small. You need room and a dedicated field is going to be best.
4th: Don't fly in the wind. Foam planes are light and don't perform well in wind. Learning to fly in the wind isn't easy.
First off, what a hoot. I have flown it 8 times and put the videos all up on you tube.
I have zero experience with planes, about 30 flights with drones over the years. Many years of RC cars and trucks.
First, ECHOTONY is 1000% right. Run the sim. Run it again. And when you feel great, run it again. When it rains for 4 days straight run the sim. I crash all the time in the sim. The space bar is the reset button. What is really cool and makes this worth it is that you use the actual plane radio to fly the plane on the simulator.
Second... i was cheap and didnt buy the gps or landing module. Think of it as Homer Sinpson not buying the add ons. First plane, sure you probably should.
Have I crashed it? Sort of. I was struggiling in the wind a bit and got pushed away, a few bad turns and it went down but nothing terrible thabks to full stick up and some porposing.
I have had a few hard landings, but not mad. I have not augered it into the earth yet.
After 8 flights, I have not had to buy anything yet. I consider that a win. Ironically I think my best landing might have been my first.
I have flown only once in beginner and int mode. It is far too limiting. I only fly in expert. I have also not used the panic button at all. This not due to me being an awesome human, this is due to the SIMULATOR. I owe it all to that.
I bought the floats for the plane. I will TRY water takeoff and landings. This will be the end. Lol.
I got my $315 worth for sure.
If you have the money and need an excuse to go outside get this. And video while doing it.
