4 years ago these would go for $5 or less around BF. Inflation my ass. Companies are just price gouging at this point.
Remember a year and some change ago these were $8
I've been told by a very reliable inside source that in their field manufacturers are factoring in a percentage of price increase to the wholesale chain, and same with retailers to the end user to try to recoup some of their losses from the covid restrictions and minimum wage increases, and they use the excuse of "supply chain issues" and "inflation"..... Those reasons of the "excuses" are probably a definite contributor to inflation...

Why is $13 for one plastic storage tote on the goddamn front page of slickdeals? This used to be like $5 - $8. This Black Friday sucks major balls. I'm so disappointed.
Yeah, and I remember when gas was around $1.80 a few years ago. Cool story bro…
Everyone crying about the price being cheaper years ago needs to wake up. Look at the cost of everything else in the world. It's all about what the purchase price is TODAY.
I bought some of these 1.5 yrs ago for this price from Home Depot. Turns out Costco and Walmart have their own versions for slightly less. Same quality but they may or may not properly stack with each other due to slight mold differences so that you buy more from the same retailer to get them to stack.
Anyone know how these (27gal) compare in price and quality to those sold at Costco?
The ones from Costco are far better. I had 7 from Costco and made the mistake of buying 10 from HomeDepot thinking they are the same quality. Half of the HD ones have cracked or shattered and the lids have split, the Costco ones are still in like new condition. They are all being used the same way.
Avoid this overpriced trash.
Inflation is, at worst 10%. Retailers , grocery stores like HEB. and restaurants are price gouging at 100-200%. American Dream my ass... more like American Capitalistic Greed Nightmare ! And let's not play brain dead and blame the lame duck president for this, the guy is useless, but he alone isn't responsible for this BS. It started years ago and we are seeing the snowball effect. That being said, the main reason is greed.

Um, I doubt that very much. These are anything but trash. They are high quality thick well built totes. I own three of them.

Not sure how your experience with poor quality totes being "well built" negates my personal experience with them being trash compared to better built ones I have owned for nearly the same duration and used for the exact same purpose.
Would this size work well for raising 4-6 baby chicks?
The limiting factor will be whatever you use to warm your chickens, followed by how long you are going to raise them inside this container.
Some folks warm their chicks with a heat lamp, most recently I opted for a "brooding plate" (check TSC). They're roughly twice the size of a sheet of paper. You need room for the chicks to get out from under this (and have food/water).
Next you'll run into chicks growing. After ~4 weeks (even after you're done warming the chicks) this tote will likely be a bit small, so it depends when you're going to get them into a coop.

Covid restrictions? Retailers were busier then ever during covid, especially Home Depot. Unless you are talking about Chinas restrictions?
IMHO the Costco and the Office Depot ones are the best. The Home Depot are the worst. The tires themselves are all decent. The difference is in the tops. The HDX ones Crack easily. I used to like the Sam's Club totes but now they use very thin tops.
