For raw performance, yes, it is. You're paying for a higher end GPU. However, this one has a 165 Hz screen and the build of the laptop is higher, as well as thinner and more portable - and this one has higher quality with the muted and less "gamer" look that most people shy away from.
I have this one. It has terrible battery life even in battery saver mode. 2 hours max.
The ROG screen is 2560x 1600 and 500 nits and 165hz and 16" — so that seems to beat the screen on the Walmart model by a significant margin

I bought this yesterday.

Battery life is about 6-7 hours on silent mode. Pretty good considering the Intel CPU inside.

Good quality FHD screen that seems just as bright as my XPS 15.

On the screen there is some backlight bleed which is frustrating if you're pedantic. That said the bleed is nowhere near as bad as the G14 I tested.

Keyboard is great.

Webcam is serviceable but doesn't compare to the FHD camera in the Legion Slim 7 which is miles ahead.

I was worried about heat but haven't seen it yet. Granted I've only played Skyrim so far - I'll try Cyberpunk tomorrow.

Last thing to note is that this is a striking laptop. Really beautiful design.

Nah, this actually has good thermals for a 16-inch laptop. Should be able to push the 3060 without too much thermal throttling. Only real cause of concern is the airflow, because fan exhaust blows through the screen when lid is open (not sure if there will be adverse effects to the screen in the long run when exposed to high air temps).

I don't love the ROG logo but at least I can live with it. The Katana logo and MSI text on screen I probably cannot stand looking at for 5 minutes.

Great deal! I bought this exact model for $1230 in open box excellent just 2 weeks ago . I'm not sure if I should return it to get this new . It is a great laptop and this is an amazing deal. You can add a 1TB SSD if the 512 GB SSD is too small

Did you play Skyrim on silent mode? Or how long did battery last while playing games?

I think the MSI 3070ti is only 105w which is only 4% better than a 140w 3060 and screen is only 230-255 nits.(not as good 3070ti 140w versions in Lenovo, &other models).

But the 3060 in this Asus is probably also something lower like 105w or a little higher. I couldn't find a wattage spec on this Asus. This asus deal is slightly better for the lightweight overall build.better screen, and features for $50 less..though there is no number pad.... So in the end $1200+ is a lot of $$$$ and either laptop better be worth it for whoever is buying this.......

(Note: there is also a MSI $100 lower 3070ti model for $1150)

Acording to asus gpu is 100w ("120w rog boost") and screen 16" 165Hz (3ms) WUXGA IPS-Level (1920 x 1200) on this model (GU603ZM-M16.I73060), screen resolution is not correct on best buy description.
Can anyone comment on the screen quality on this? I can't find how many nits is the FHD one

A gaming laptop is not designed to play games on battery power. I've had 50 gaming laptops over the years and you'd be lucky to get an hour of gaming at reduced FPS.
