You are correct, you'd find, more or less, better deals if you just want a straight-up gaming laptop. However, you need to get your priorities straight and sort out the main things you want in a laptop.
The Nitro is Acer's budget gaming lineup and while that model you mentioned has a much superior GPU, this is superior in everything else; build quality; the display (except for resolution) at 500-nits, 100% DCI-P3; the processor; and this also has a much bigger battery and lesser weight.

This is not only a gaming laptop but also a creator laptop.
Acer is crap quality compared to Asus

I really like the design of this, but at $999 I have seen better specs for that price like the Acer 3070TI

I understand, I actually have been watching youtube video reviews on the asus laptops and I found the M16 to be the on my wishlist because its the one that contains everything including Ethernet port which the other models on sale didn't have.
At first, I was very interested in the Z14 with RX6800S but I realized it doesn't have ethernet port and runs quite hot and loud based on the reviews I saw.

USB C to ethernet is pretty cheap these days. Even the 2.5G models. If you're willing to do some tweaking, the Z14 can run quiet and cool. The CPU just boosts too much when it doesn't need to.

Tempting laptop for my use case being productivity and excel. I travel for work I value build quality, battery life, screen brightness(used outside a lot). I prefer amd for superior battery life but intels quicksync pays dividends for the times I'm video editing

The 2021 Asus G14 has rtx 3060 6gb, ryzen 5800hs, and a 14 inch 16:9 panel for $800 new on Best buy.
You can also buy the 2022 G14 which is better in every way for $800 open box.
Not seeing the 2022 g14 anywhere near 800. Link?

These are my favorite line of affordable gaming laptops, and I did buy this one when I was trying to figure out which one I ultimately wanted to go with. I returned it due to the FHD screen. If you are coming to this from a 1440p screen it was just so noticeable and pixelation and type and things like that. But if you're doing just gaming, you probably won't notice as much and the FHD probably pairs better with the 30. 30. 60 than a 1440p would.

The decision will mostly depend on which display you want. The M16 has a 16:10 FHD display, but it's much brighter at 500 Nits. The G15 is a sharper QHD display, but retains the old 16:9 widescreen style and is much dimmer at a standard 300 Nits.

Have you ever used ethernet to USB-C? I have it for my laptop, and I'm not sure if software is involved in the handoff, but I had random disconnects to the internet throughout the day, especially during meetings.
