Opposite experience for me with the Samsung Smart Tags. Packed them in luggage/backpack while traveling to SF and they pinged the entire trip, regardless of how near/far I was from them. Pinged all day long in my hotel room from various Galaxy users passing by. Also tracked them on all flights, which let me know my checked bags boarded with me. Highly recommend them.

The only issue I've had with these is when they are close to dying, I've never seen it go into the low battery phase. It just stops tracking no notification or anything. Instead, it shows the last location of when it was on as if that's its current location.

Also need to be careful about privacy laws. California has some pretty crazy ones about tracking people without their knowledge, even if it's your car. So, if you lend your car to a friend and are able to track them without their knowledge, you could be breaking the law.

It seems nobody has asked the most obvious question: how are these Samsung smarttags compared to Apple airtags? Do they work better? Worse? Worth the lower price?

I'm an optimistic glass-full kind of a person. 88% of buyers were happy. Yay.

I had the 'Tile' things and the technology is identical. They were entirely worthless, as these will be, because they only find your thing if your thing is in line of sight so the bt signal is found, and if the devices are in line of sight, you'd just see the thing anyway. Battery goes dead, you won't know, then the tracker device is absolutely useless. Don't bother, these don't work, the tech is not a sound means of finding lost things.

My car has a built-in GPS that was made by Subaru and came with the car.

Probably because most don't chose tracker tag based on price or feature, as they only work with the phone from same company.

in US, apple might have slight edge on the Airtags due to compatible iPhones in the wild. I've conflicting report but Airtags don't work in South Korea, whereas SmartTags do. Other parts of the world, SmartTags may have slight advantage but I've had no problem getting locations on either in most of EU + UK.

This is as long as you are not looking for UWB locating capability, which comes with Airtag and SmartTag+ but not these, so tradeoff between the discount and ultrawide .

You're risking getting a knock off, copy, pretending to be the original thing which tends to be inferior.
There is no point knocking these off - as they are serialized and need to be registered with Samsung to work.

Knock-off won't register to work - unless someone's good enough to hack Samsung database - at that point they can make way more money doing something else...
