For anyone that wants to be able to fix their own machines when they inevitably die, you may want to steer clear of Breville. They are notoriously built for "one use" only, meaning they have proprietary screws and parts and are built in such a way as to intentionally keep you out and keep you from replacing what is probably a very inexpensive part.
As someone who has taken apart two different, VERY complex superautos, and rebuilt, I definitely frown on this practice. It's wasteful for one, and anti-consumer for another. Gaggias and their ilk are great IMO not because they produce any better shots than this would, but for that primary reason.

It's easy enough to order the non-pressurized baskets to insert into the portafilter.
The lack of hot water spout was the key for me to getting the Barista Pro and I got it for $560.
If you're an espresso/latte drinker, this machine will be great, especially if you add the non-pressurized baskets.

But I think deciding between small vs large comes down to your specific situation.
Barista Pro:
-Much larger footprint, but also doesn't squirm around on the counter when you are portafiltering.
- Already has the non-pressurized baskets (not a huge deal, you can buy these for the Bambino for around $25 I think last time I looked, maybe less)
-LCD
-Built in grinder. Again, could be positive or negative. If you don't have a grinder and don't want to plunk down for a decent one, this could be a plus. It's not an amazing grinder, but it's definitely sufficient to allow you to grind beans that make a very good shot (depending of course on beans, tamping, etc). Definitely not a plus if you already have a decent grinder, or are bought in to the idea that you should spend 2x the grinder vs the cost of the espresso machine.

Thanks for this. I am going to get that bambino then. I think the gaggia would be worth buying in a couple of years, I need to ease into this hobby, and figure out what to do with some of my older equipment

Also... for what it's worth I paired my machine with a Niche Zero grinder and the results have been fantastic.
