These things are terrible in a dark room. I bought one a few months ago and had to send it back because of that. There's an "adaptive brightness" that can't be turned off so if your room isn't bright enough then the clock can get too dim to see.

Please note, this is the Alexa enabled version vs the Google Home enabled version.

I stopped buying Alexa products a long time ago when I asked:

Me: "Hey Google, how long does it take to get to <some other town>?"
Google: "By car, it will take you X minutes with current traffic."

Me: "Alexa, how long does it take to get to <some other town>"
Alexa: "I can tell you that <town> is X miles away, but because I don't know how fast you're going, I can't tell you how long it will take."

Can someone help on explaining how to change time zone on this clock?
If the linked account has the correct address, it should be set to that time zone automatically.

They never suggested that, Yes they are on pace to a loss of about $10B this year
Google and all others also are losing big $s on similar assistance.
But it would be a massive PR issue if they just shut down Alexa rendering the products unusable.

Disappointing to learn that it can't be used as an intercom with Amazon Echo devices.

Anyone know if the Echo Show 5 can reasonably be used as an alarm clock?
Sure, it can, but I would choose an Echo Dot with clock instead. All of my Echo Show 5s started having an issue after a couple years where the display blinks / glitches every 5 seconds or so. I did some research and discovered that it's a very common problem with the Echo Show 5.

The tech teams are being gutted. They haven't been able to monetize Alexa and their margin on Amazon devices has been minimal. So I feel they will stop releasing new versions or updating the existing in some time.

Got one of these clocks recently in blue and I love it. Wanted a clock device in my bedroom that would keep itself synced to Daylight Savings Time but wouldn't be too bright like all the Show devices are. At a 0% brightness mode it's dark enough at night my wife doesn't complain but I can still see the clock. It's cool how it allows for either temp or a decibel meter.

Downside is it's a terrible Alexa as it's mic picks up way way less than your average Echo Dot, but for the bedroom that isn't the worst thing. Recommended if you have Alexa elsewhere in your house and you want a modern bedside clock.

Thanks for the info. Does it support the "announce" or "drop in" features when used with other Alexa devices?

I saw a setting to turn off adaptive brightness in the alexa app. Not sure you should be posting invalid suggestions without proper research

If there is a setting to turn it off then it's been very recently added. I highly doubt that though considering there don't seem to have been any recent firmware updates. If you don't want to take my word for it then you can confirm the reviews yourself to see it's a common complaint:

You know you can turn this off right? Swipe up from bottom you can use manual brightness. Circle with letter A means automatic. Only main gripes is I cannot see current date except with Playground clock face. Other than that it's a great clock much better than echo where I had lots of issue with alarm clock.

Is this better at voice recognition than the echo show 5? Apparently, the show only has 2 microphones and it really struggles. Almost always, I end up having to shout at it in order for it to wake. Sometimes, even shouting isn't enough and I have to shout the wake phrase multiple times

Does it actually stay at the level you set it to though, or does it revert back? In my experience it would revert back shortly after changing, and Lenovo confirms this behavior in Amazon's FAQ:

Auto brightness is a built in feature of this Lenovo Smart Clock Essential with Alexa. You can manually change the screen brightness by using a Voice Command like, Alexa dim screen to 50%. But if the ambient lighting changes within the room the Smart Clock Essential is located in, the auto brightness will automatically adjust the screen brightness, which you can again over ride with another Voice Command.

Not in my experience. I've been using it for a few months it never revert back to automatic. In fact I find manual too bright at night I prefer automatic. Yes, it gets really dim when it's completely dark but you wouldn't want even a small brightness it will likely disturb you at night.

The photos that you shared appear to be the "Smart Clock 2", which has a LCD touch screen display, and uses Google Assistant.

This thread is talking about the "Smart Clock Essential", which has a simpler LED non-touch display, and uses Alexa.

The brightness controls are different due to the different display types.
