- The CPU performs below the level of a below-average mobile i7-12700H (yes H version). Cinebench R23 ~12k pts. A full 12700 is supposed to be ~21K pts. With all adjustable settings maxed via BIOS, Windows power settings, Intel XTU, the most performance I could squeeze out of this CPU was ~18k pts.
- The i7-12700H in my Acer Helios Predator 300 laptop hits ~18k pts stock settings in high fan modes.
- The GPU probably works fine, DDR4 RAM, etc. whatever
- The CPU is highly performance limited because Lenovo limits max temp to 90C (you cannot bypass this as far as I know, nor would I really want to). Lenovo limits the CPU power settings (PL1, PL2, PL1 time) below Intel's specifications, probably to achieve temperature/thermal constraints within the relatively small case.
That said, I do like the look of the case, a simpler and classier 'gamer' design. But just be forewarned you're not getting the full fat i7-12700 experience out of this CPU, at least with stock cooler/software constraints

And can't forget the major reason to build is to get the parts you want at a cheaper price. But this deal is mostly good parts at approx 50% it would cost to build on your own.

He's currently using an i5 8th gen with an RX 560 and finding that his frame rates are too low, so my question is, based on this situation do you think the extra $'s are worth it in future proofing him or should I just save the money and upgrade him again sooner?
Thanks so much for your advice!

This staples deal is awesome.
Same here. I never get in on hot deals like this before they go out of stock. My timing this time was on point. If it ships, this is like hitting the lottery for $500.
