Really can't understand why this tech is so insanely expensive. I guess because it's a niche product, there's no real competition to drive prices down. Incredible what $179 can buy you instead of this.
It's not exactly a niche product as it's an important diagnostic tool in the engineering world. One big factor is that it's made by FLIR and they are leaders in IR technology. There's also not much like it in the market in terms of IP. It's not like this product is made by Craftsman or Ryobi.

80x60 resolution…lol. All you're going to get for thermal images are red blobs on the screen. Last time a Flir camera deal was posted, someone recommended an alternative, the Topdon tc001 which has 256x192 resolution. I bought that one instead. Sellers on ebay are selling it for around $230 but some of them you can submit Best Offer to. Try to get them down to around $180-200. It's USB-C only though, but you're going to get a much better thermal camera than this Flir.
Bought the same one based on that post and it's been great. Currently down to $195.50 + tax on topdon.us

Everyone is hating on this deal.. but got any suggestions as an alternative? I got a very drafty house with some obvious areas to tackle but want to grab a camera to get a better idea of whats going on
I purchased the Seek Thermal version of this from Amazon several years ago and it has been very useful with a resolution of 206x156. They have both USB & iOS versions for $215-$245.

Price seems great. But is it lacking a regular camera?
I like when you can combine both or use the outlines of the normal camera.
It does not have a regular camera like the Flir, but the resolution is high enough that I could tell what I was looking at in the app. App itself works pretty well. Once installed, it'll automatically launch when you plug the camera in, and you have many different color overlays to choose from. I found black on white or white on black to work best to see outlines of whatever I'm looking at while getting the data I needed.

You can actually get the Topdon TC001 down to $175.95 + tax (free shipping) with coupon code TAKE10 on their website.

$12 extra for that much more resolution made it an easy choice for me. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yea supposedly that post caused a rush of demand for that Topdon and all the sellers jacked up the price about $20, lol. Managed to get one down to $200, and they were running that 20% promo at the time, so after everything I got it for like $175, which is a really nice price for such a device. Been using it to check insulation around my house and I have 0 complaints.

If warranty expires, they don't offer an option to buy battery, nor pay for them to replace, Nor a repair...they offer u a crappy discount to buy another new device from them...
Seems like Apple's crappy business practices.

Beware that the resolution is very limited at 80x60 with this unit. If you're serious about thermal imaging (i.e. for detecting leaks around the house, ensuring appliances and electrical outlets are behaving correctly, ghost hunting lol), I recommend looking at the high-end model "Flir One Pro" since the extra 160x120 resolution is worth it for accurate readings.

The Flir One Pro for iOS phones is currently on sale for $300 on Amazon. Amazon doesn't seem to carry the Flir One Pro for Android with USB-C but Flir sells it direct for $359. I agree with others' comments that the price is absurd -- likely because there's no other viable competitor for this niche product. If you're willing and able to buy the Flir One Pro, I can attest that it's a nifty device even though it'll sit unused for most of the year. Source: my brother-in-law messes around with these Flir devices and he loans them to me after he's done with them.

Anyone know if the usb-c version would work with an iPad? I don't want to buy a lightning product only to have Apple ditch that port…

Thanks! The link I went to is: <https://topdonusa.myshopify.com/>. I tried to make offers to the Ebay sellers, but couldn't get it down this low.
