Depends on your definition of smokeless. Does smokeless mean no smoke or smokes less?

Reading comprehension is a thing. He said "essentially 0%". That is absolutely true. Smoke is nothing but byproducts of incomplete combustion, and incomplete combustion is caused by too low a temperature. Too low a temperature is often caused by inadequate airflow. These devices aim to help with that issue. I burn all the time and get essentially smokeless fires, even in a below ground pit.

Something to keep in mind is these smokeless pits burn through wood faster than a traditional pit. I originally got an insane deal on a 25 inch HotShot from HD before seeing how big it is. But I'm returning it (unused) for a 2.0 bonfire because I want to use it a lot without going through cords of wood every month.

I heard difference between those two sizes is only 20% more wood.

You could spend $300 on this, or you can buy a much cheaper fire pit, drill some holes in the bottom and top (part of smokeless) and then use a small fan to start the fire at a faster rate so it burns hotter (which makes less smoke).

It's smokeless as in less smoke not without smoke.
Similar to the metal... it is stainLESS not stain free

Yeah I think the guy who wrote that article isn't too bright, because it also says this:

"If you have one fire a week for 4 hours for 4 months out of the year, you'll need approximately 2,800 lbs of wood to fuel the Yukon, vs. 1,235lbs for the Bonfire."

So it takes double the wood but only uses 22% more per hour? What?

It's supposed to be "the Yukon uses 122% more wood than than the Bonfire."

He said essentially 0%. It recycles the smoke and burns off most of the soot that would be in the smoke. Smart concept that uses natural convection, crazy that this is a new thing.

Question for everyone. I saw some of these today at my local Sam's. If you purchased this recently, hoping you could tell me how to clean it out. Does it have a removable ash tray or do you have to tilt it or vacuum it? Thanks!
