With cats (and dogs for that matter), consistency is probably more important than incremental differences in quality. Plus some of the cheap food (Friskies, Purina Naturals) actually has some 'flavors' that are comparable to some of the high priced brands. You just have to do a little research as to which have the appropriate mix of protein and fat to carbs. After dealing with an insulin diabetic cat for more than a decade, you learn that price and statements like grain-free or meat as first ingredient aren't really a good indication of quality.
For example, Friskies canned ranges from 34 to 67% protein and carbs from 4-27% carbs depending flavor. Merrick ranges from 30-47% protein and carbs from 4-15%. So, whether a cheap supermarket brand or a high-end brand, there are particular flavors that are all over the place nutritionally... and it depends on your pet as to which is the most 'healthy'. A high protein, low fat supermarket brand proved to be the best for keeping consistent glucose levels for us.
Hmmmm that's an interesting perspective, and you very well could be right - I tend to buy what I perceive as "higher quality" foods based on the ingredients many internet sites say to avoid, though I am wary of how important it really is to avoid these (kind of like how California puts "cancer warning" on almost every goddamn thing and now I don't believe any of it). Examples of what I'm talking about are Carrageenan, Cellulose, Sodium Nitrite and "Meat & Bone Meal." I do agree with you at a high level that macro-nutrients are far more important than this (protein to carb ratio), but your mention of the importance of consistency now has me thinking it may be best to do what you're suggesting and find one consistent, low cost food with the macro nutrients suggested and continue with the same diet for the felines....
My vet recommended I stick to one MEAT, so I therefore feed them turkey and chicken only but I will price search and brand search consistently and they therefore end up with many different brands, types, etc of turkey and chicken food... And I feed 85% wet food, 15% dry food FYI (the dry food is therefore consistent for nearly a year before I go through a big bag and then swap to a different bag/brand).
Big time cat lover here and really try to keep them for 15-20 years, so am open to hearing more info/expertise, TIA! <3
items are the same as in store at most things on doordash. Only difference is sometimes in store promos and 5% service fee
You can also order 1 out of stock item at roughly $50 and your percentage off discount never changes. That means you can get this $50 order roughly free
What's best way to determine OOS items since unlike Petco, Petsmart online does not show you store stock?
Is this all final sale or do regular return policies apply?
Many dashers give you receipt from the store, I would assume with Xmas coming up you would be able to get maybe store credit if not a refund. I personally did not try it though.

Call the store and ask if anything major is missing and that you are placing an order and don't want to make a mistake. Otherwise I found a food processor on a really great sale at BBB that was easy to find out of stock. Got my order for free
Pair this with free dash pass from chase and this is awesome. So long as the items you choose aren't inflated
just got my order back. I paid $0 at BBB. Ordered a $52 food processor out of stock and about $45 of other stuff. The shopper accidentally left the receipt and doordash paid $65 for the items. The prices were lower in doordash than in store.
Two items where 0.50 higher than in store but an extension cord was $16 or instacart and $32 in store.

Go to the store and see what they have in stock? Their app do tell you what's in stock but not very accurate. My dasher marked a lot of things as out of stock even though it says it's in stock in the app. Maybe they have them, just not on the shelves.

They are not supposed to supply a reciept and you can not refund to cash or store credit. I tried on instacart to office depot/office max and explained my scenario. Whoever was working was glad to help me as he knew the situation but there was nothing he could do.

I definitely agree with the 'one protein' direction... that's our vet's recommendation as well (my wife worked as a vet tech in the office). BTW, turkey and chicken can be very different digestively. I didn't realize that until my vet pointed it out. We go with a turkey based diet.
Meat and bone meal (or meat byproducts) is an interesting one to me.... especially after watching an outdoor cat, that we 'inherited' from neighbors, eat rabbits and birds... bone, organs, fur, feathers and all. I get the concerns, but well... cats eat EVERYTHING!
I'm just happy to have an intelligent conversation on pet food... instead of most of the ranting and raving that usually goes on.

Our Petsmart had a deal on cat litter... ordered 10... they only had 4... so now I know what they're out of but is still showing in doordash...
The code was showing for me to use yesterday. Had all the stuff in my cart ready to order since the store was closed by the time I got on. Then this morning, the code was gone and I tried to input it manually, it's telling me promotion only available to customers who never ordered at this location. I ordered there in the past, so that's a bummer. 😕
I ordered 12 items at Big Lots. As it turned out, six of the items were out of stock and Doordash let me keep the entire discount of $48 so I ended up paying $12 for the entire order including the tip to the delivery driver.
