It's probably the most used size by car mechanics.

The metric set goes up to 13mm, that covers 95% of interior work.

You obviously don't work on stuff very often. Been wrenching for a long time and the 1/4" ratchet probably has the most use of them all. That goes for automotive work, and electrical/engineering stuff, not counting all the personal stuff too.

Agreed. 1/4 drive maybe I use occasionally under dash or when space is an issue. Otherwise it's nearly always 3/8 or even more so 1/2. I'm a hobbyist working on cars for years, and in particular for older cars, 1/4 typically doesn't cut it for much, due to lack of leverage on fasteners.

The stuff at Home Depot is real Crescent, but they were bought by Apex (the company that makes Gearwrench and SATA hand tools) and it's not your father's Crescent tools of years ago.

I worked on cars for 7 years before battery tools ruled the lands. The 1/4 is the most commonly used because of weight and access. I wore them out rather frequently. Interior work, most body work, taking all the covers off, the bigger the tool the heavier it is and harder to get into places. 1/2 is by far least used. That's what impacts are for. The only bummer on this deal is the 72 teeth. Serviceable but not great for tight spots.

Picked up both sets today for a set to keep in my Land Cruiser. I use 1/4 drives the most working on my vehicles. They are easier to fit in tight quarters and less weight to juggle with. Once things are snug with the 1/4 drive, I go back through with a 1/2 or 3/8. Great deal because it is one of the few sets that have all sizes for shallow and deep sockets.

I rarely use my 1/2 wrenches. 1/4 on most things. Occasionally 3/8s. I don't do a lot of car work outside of light body and trim.

I read statements from mechanics saying they use 1/4" most of the time, that it's what you use for interior work. What sort of auto shop does mostly interior work? What common interior problems are people taking their cars into the shop for (I feel interior issues are usually simple enough for people to try to DIY)? such that it comprises most of a mechanics' work (I feel interior issues are usually quick little jobs)?

In my current car, a 2011 Altima, I've owned it for 6 years and have had 15 rockauto part orders (ie. about 15 repair projects). None of which were interior work. Interior-wise, I've replaced the cabin air filter, which was all plastic tab fasteners and I've had a clip behind the dome light come loose, which was also all plastic tab fasteners. What in the interior even uses nuts/bolts, like the stereo and door panels?
