It's also good for someone switching over from guitar. I didn't have any problems with it sounding "limp and flappy". It sounds the same as a full sized bass and I even play in drop D, so I'm not sure what "detuning" problems you're having.
Really, short scale basses have been used by Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, Bill Wyman, Plil Lesh and a lot of others. I own one of these and its a fine bass for adults not just children. I also have a Fender Precision (full scale). I enjoy playing both of them
Yeah, it's a super deal and not a bad instrument. Especially good for people with smaller hands or those guitarists who are interested in playing bass (which in my experience is a smart move).

Lots of small amps have been on sale, such as the Rumble 25 (search SD for links).

Wow it doesn't even list this price on the website but the link worked. Perfect timing for a Christmas present too! Thanks!

Damn, this is a great deal, but I already have one from the previous deal mentioned above. What would I do with a second one?
We had one (not from the previous deal, I think we paid around $180 for it) and while it was purchased for my wife, since discovering Rocksmith I've started playing it and having so much fun that we bought a second one with this $129 deal. I'm thinking I might leave one in Drop D tuning for songs that require that.

As far as the size of this, I'm 6'4" with long arms and fairly big hands, and I don't find this Mikro bass to be too small. Granted I didn't have any prior experience in playing bass, and minimal experience playing around with a guitar.

As others have said, it's similar in size to most guitars, IMO it's not just for kids or people with small hands.

Appreciate the post. Saw that other one about 3/4 and I'm your size so got worried. Been wanting on to play with rock smith that I've had sitting in box for ~8 years hopefully that plug works

Adorama is good to go. Bought the 5 string for my son, and the shipping was quick. Saw the 4 string full size and got that for myself, and that's on the way, and just got this one as a second present for my son.

Be aware that they ship it in the Ibanez guitar box so if you're buying it as a present make sure you're home and have delivery alerts on or else the surprise will be spoiled! It says IBANEZ across the whole thing and it's sort of the shape of a guitar and has the part number and everything on it.

Also, I already own the Roadster Orange version of this Mikro bass and it's really cool, but unfortunately that color isn't on sale. It's very light and sounds great out of the box.

Edit Edit:
This is a pretty thorough review of this bass with different styles and shows the sounds from the different pickups. I went down a rabbit hole of looking at reviews because I suck at bass even though I own this.

Edit Edit Edit:
Got the 4 string I ordered delivered just now. This time they put the Ibanez box inside of a larger plain box which helped, however on the top/short side of the box it has GUITAR BOX-5 printed on it. At least being in a plain box gives some cover if you're pulling into the driveway with the person who you bought it for in the car with you you can run up and keep it a surprise. Also not having the guitar shaped box that says IBANEZ on it hidden might keep porch pirates away.
Also, the 4 and 5 string full size basses in walnut from the other deals are gorgeous and amazingly light.

Really fun instrument, I have 3 guitars with a longer scale length so I bought this as my first bass, despite being way shorter than 34" it can still handle EADG easily, can get great tones out of it for the price, heck just about any guitar from a big name maker for this price should be a deal

Mine arrived last night. Haven't played in 25+ years. Plenty happy with it, couldn't put it down - for like 4 hours.

Dang this is tempting... I have a 5 string standard bass (G&L Tribute L2500) that I like a lot but this looks like a lot of fun

I bought this in blue for my kids to learn on. When I took it out of the box yesterday, I fully expected it to need a professional set-up. I was wrong. Other than tuning it, this bass didn't need a thing. It is so fun and easy to play. So much so that I've spent more time playing with it than they have! The finish is great. No fret buzz and no sharp frets. It's light and comfortable, and after a few tweaks dialing in the tone/pickup knobs, it sounds full and deep. For reference, I'm 6'2" and though primarily a guitar player, I have owned and am comfortable playing a full-size bass. Considering the lighter weight and smaller form factor, this is much more comfortable to play for long periods of time. In my opinion, for $130, this is a no-brainer for kids and adults.

Sincere question -- any 5 string short scale basses available at these sale prices?

Ordered the metallic purple. Super fast shipping and it's awesome! I've played guitar and ukulele for 20+ years... this is my first bass. Definitely a good deal for anyone who wants a something fun.

What would be a good "starter" amp for this? Coming from acoustic guitar trying to get into electric

Speaking of Rocksmith - there is a website with community-created DLCs for it, in case you want to practice on something you like rather than built-in songs:
