I bought one of these when they were on sale last week. It is a great value at this price.

That being said, this is the 5th Fender guitar I have bought from Adorama and 4 out of the 5 have been in a similar condition when they arrived. They are always in boxes that have been opened and re-sealed. They always have the tags and accessories included but often show light wear. No more than you would get if you bought a guitar that had been on display in a store but very different than when you buy from a normal online retailer. I have always wondered exactly what the nature of Adorama's deal with Fender is. This next part is only speculation on my part, but I have always wondered if these are guitars that come back to Fender from the retail channel and then are sold to Adorama.

Either way, not a huge deal but something to be aware of if you are picky about such things.

Other than that, the guitar is great. I am not sure I love the v-mod pickups but that is just a matter of personal preference.

It did come with the trem arm tip broken off. I messaged Adorama but they have not gotten back to me about that yet.

I would like to say that the above text completely describes my experience with Adorama as well. About 7 months ago I got an American Original 60's Jazz Bass in apple candy red from them and the instrument arrived in a crumbling, dried and faded out, scotched together, not factory sealed, tired looking original fender box (not double-boxed). The instrument had all the tags but gave the impression that it had been opened and used before, the guitar had a paint defect near the bridge (paint flaking off). Now, kudos to Adorama they took it back no questions asked, but, still, it made me apprehensive when it comes to buying musical instruments from them again.

Bought a Miami blue for my 13 year old last year at GC. It has held up well, no issues. He moved up from a Squire which I had to repair twice over same time period.

Maybe try a D string temporarily to see if the nut slot is too large for a G string? Or at least lay a D string on the slot and see if it fits. For what it's worth the G string is the one I have the most problems with on my guitars (no pun intended!)..
I just spent another few hours starting on a full setup from scratch on the pro II, including replacing the strings again (used same ones again, EB 9->42s), your advice started me digging deeper on string stuff(vs. me digging into trem bolts, saddle screws, and other things on the body that might be rattling), and I found that many others had problem with strat G string just like mine. After I finished, tt isn't fixed, but it is WAY better this second time around. The string is no longer dead, and the buzzing only happens on very hard strums now, and only after raising the pickups to play height (when I start a setup I lower the pickups to be all the way sunk into the pick guard, it makes it easier to tune without pup interference with the strings, especially when intonating). Full setup for me is to remove the strings, check all of the fret heights and edge and fix what is needed, then polish (already did this and they were still fine), then replace strings, tune to std->truss (6th fret to .006)->Action via saddle height(lowE to .006, hiE to .005)->middle four matched to the Es via 9.5" radius gauge->nut/first fret string height(lowE, A to .020, D and G to .018, and B, hiE to .016)->Intonation->pickup height, while retuning after each adjustment. I had already floated the trem so didn't need to adjust the trem springs.

I think that I must have kinked/bent the G string while replacing strings the first time given how much better it is now with only very minor adjustments during the setup, now the fretted notes are great. Once I move the pickups back to playing height, the G string sustain dies a lot faster and the tone is off a bit even when in tune, which I think is because of the vintage pickups that have a super high pole piece on the G, which were designed for wound G strings that were the norm back in the day. Those magnet are pretty strong.

It seems that to fix this, I either need to 1) replace the pickups (nope, I like these), 2) modify the pickups by lowering the G pole piece (maybe, but not yet, will try #3 first, I think Darrel Braun did a video on this?), or 3) get some wound G strings. Just ordered a 3 pack of 18Ws, hoping that a wound string fixes the G sustain and slight buzzing issues, from what I have read/learned, that makes sense.

So... it plays GREAT now, thanks for the advice!!

On objective merits I would say no. The MiM standard strats are generally good instruments.

Even if you were recording or gigging I am not sure you would *need* this upgrade. Many people perform and record with less expensive instruments.

It is more about what you want and what inspires you.

That being said, if you really felt you needed an upgrade an interesting option would be to grab a loaded pickguard from Fender using their 30% deal today.
Even though this deal is dead, just wanted to follow up and say thanks for your input. I decided to run to guitar center yesterday and try out a few higher tier Fenders (Pro II, Player Plus, etc.). I think I was particularly lucky with my MIM Strat as the fretwork and overall neck feel is probably 95% of the way there by comparison. I also think the electronics are more than adequate for my needs. Now I feel satisfied with my choice and don't feel like I'm missing out on the higher tier instruments. IF I ever get to the point that the small nuance differences matter, I'll make the investment.

So here's some info for everyone, especially if you missed this deal! I screwed and cancelled my order on the mercury strat (long story). I originally wanted a dark knight rosewood tele which wasn't on sale. I regretted canceling my order so I chatted with adorama who initially said sale is over sorry can't help. I then emailed their support and after a few days they got back to me and agreed to sell me the dark night tele for $1249! Pretty cool I was able to get the color I wanted! So for anyone that missed the sale there's still a chance!

Good to hear! It can be a bit intimidating to start messing with a guitar setup but if you have the patience it can be rewarding knowing you're learning new skills.

Just wanted to say I bought a Miami Blue strat that arrived today. It played really nicely when I briefly tried it out briefly last night, but when I gave a more thorough inspection today I was disappointed to find a finish crack forming right under the neck. I initially thought there was a neck pocket crack, but upon further inspection it was just some globby overspray. There were also a couple light scratches on the body, and while the guitar was fingerprint free, the packaging had been previously opened. The outer box it came in was in relatively good shape. It shipped directly from Fender almost exactly a year ago.

For $1300, I was expecting a little higher quality finish work. I'll be asking for a replacement (or a return if they don't grant one); I've got several mim's that are just about as good for 1/3 of the price.

Bought the starburst. Plays fine. Body is near perfect aside from some very light scratches and the pick guard is slightly warped where fender Strat pick guards warp. For the price I'm satisfied.

It has been sitting for two years though based on the box it came in. It arrived at Adorama from California dec 2020.

Hmm. I'm curious to see how my black and white arrives. Buster box, scratches, buzzy frets, maybe stairway to heaven played on it…

Mine has the same "warp". Causes the volume knob to rub a little. It doesn't bother me that much but would a new pick guard solve that? Was thinking of black pearl anyway

yeah, it would. I was looking on line at ways to fix, some people will take the guard off and just heat it up to flatten it. It's not worth the trouble to me.

Can you explain your setup a bit more? I may have misunderstood, but it sounds like your action is super low. Also if you don't mind me asking what is your relief set at the 8th fret? What is your pickups height fretting the last fret? Also what is your action height at the 17th fret?
