This is a fantastic device. I've used many different streaming devices and this model does a great job with HDR, Dolby Vision, and has a great selection of apps. Also, the remote headphone jack and voice capabilities are awesome.
I have all models of Roku. This one is also snappier/quicker to respond. That's a big deal to me. I'd only buy the models with volume control on the remote as well. Big convenience.

If Roku ever designs a decent remote they will relegate Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV to the electronic dump heap.

Not true! The Walmart near me (in Rochester NY) had them for $79.99. This was today afternoon.

Also, I ordered the day after black Friday. Walmart said I'd receive it the next day (I have Walmart+). Then, I got a message that the delivery was delayed. Finally, it was canceled. So, I think it is definitely a YMMV deal.
Same thing happened to me, I ordered this for shipping and they changed it to store delivery. It was delayed for several days so I complained by chat with Walmart. I was assured it would be delivered and was given a $10 promo code for my frustration. I reordered this roku w/the promo and cancelled the original. Never settle for bad service.

2 gigs. I received mine a few weeks ago for $30. Ive had a lot more freeze ups and issues compared to my older Ultras and built in Roku's. I'm about to return. I also bought 2 ONN $20 devices and they have been perfect. I can't say for sure but others have complained about this model on SD as well as the Walmart reviews. I think others will find this model has some serious bugs and in need of a firmware update. I'm a big fan of Roku, but this one has pissed me off beyond belief.

One thing to consider is that the older the model, the sooner it reaches the planned obscelecence phase. Granted this model is only a year behind the current one, but I would still be wary of any older models marked way down. I did that with my first two Roku devices and they quit working after only one year.

Possibly...
Does your TV have Dolby Vision and are you trying to watch a source that can use it?
Yes to both.
There does seem to be a slight boost to video quality with Dolby Vision turned on.

Can anyone confirm if the volume buttons control the volume of the content over the HMDI connection?

My plan is to connect the Roku to an hdmi audio extractor -> stereo out analog -> powered speakers. There is no volume control on the HDMI extractor
This does control the volume on an HDMI connected device
Or rather..it controls the TV volume or an ARC connected device that you have connected to your TV

The volume control buttons on the remote are for headphones use only.
MY roku remote control will control the volume on the TV or ARC connected device to the TV

If I'm reading this correctly, this model on sale does not have remote finder? What's the cheapest Roku with remote finder if you know? Thank you!
I believe that all the Rokus that support the compatible remote with remote finder does have this feature in the menus or via Roku app. Here is that info: https://support.roku.com/article/211865427

If you want the button on the unit, I believe the Roku 4 and older Roku Ultras have this button feature. I would be careful with the Roku 4 units because they have thermal issues unless you want to mod one. There is an older Roku Ultra LT that does not have it too.

I do not use this feature. So I would not know if I am off or not with this info.

Easily Apple TV. I have both and it's not even close.
maybe for your use case, but Apple falls behind in quite a few categories.

If you care about cutting the cord with out subscriptions, Roku has better free curated content. Roku with headphone support is pretty slick. Owning an apple TV will give you the best "show me all my apps" interface and a modern remote that you will easily lose and has low tactile feel. If you watch YouTube a lot, get a Chromecast to get a YouTube app with no ads. If you want a box that works best offline for vehicle(RV, mini van) use with your own curated content, get a chromecast... You can connect it to an SD card, run Kodi and have a library of movies on the go. apple and Roku imo are too much of a pain to customize.

For performance, Apple fan boys will say, but this version is 2 seconds faster to launch YouTube... Well guess what "since you don't have a YouTube, Netflix or Disney+ button on the physical remote... You need those extra seconds to actually get to the app and launch it instead of 1 button press on remote like others have".

Speed is relative.. are we talking about remote control launch speed process, app startup speed or voice launch speed process because they are different for all and I'd argue that the physical remote is king especially for elderly and developing children.

My reco per priority:
Chromecast: ad free YouTube, offline media box use, maximum universal remote functions, finding new curated content per your habits, Google assistant bias, gphotos ambiance mode
apple: slick interface flex, air pod connectivity, iphone screen sharing, icloud photo screensaver
roku: cable cutter wanting to minimize paid subscriptions, durable and tactile remote for young and elderly, simplest interface
fire stick: Alexa assistance bias

Are you saying tvs with Roku can become unusable or obsolete due to the software or device?

You might need to look at this page: https://developer.roku.com/docs/s...ardware.md

It shows the devices that is still supported and not supported.

I would respectfully disagree. My Roku Ultra was purchased five years ago and still works with no issues.
