I am not an expert but while ddr5 faster by 4 to 10% i would take the the more ram, take the ti over the base and the larger ssd here.

Don't overthink too much. Determine what's the most important factor first and it's easy to make decisions. If gaming is the most important, then Costco deal is better. If you just occasional gaming, then stick with Lenovo since you can add more to it later.

Remember as previously mentioned, hp can not really add stuff, plus its only 600 watt system. So if u are ok to stay with stock config, HP is good. Personally I don't like hp pc since they tend to break easily, but you are covered by Costco so that will be a very high incentive for me to get hp if I am in market.

I bought the Lenovo from Best Buy on Black Friday for $1000. I see this is $1000. This Costco HP has 32 GB DDR4, vs the Best Buy Lenovo 16 GB DDR5 (which I would up to 32 GB). The Costco HP does have a 3060Ti vs the Best Buy Lenovo 3060.

Thoughts? Should I get this HP Costco instead?

You can swap the included 1td spinning disk with any data you want, and there is an open m2 expansion. Drop 1, 2 or 4 tb in there...

Only major expansion issue I see is the no open sata port.
Yup. though usb 3 storage, I dont think is slower than sata drives.

Pretty decent deal. Would be even better if the ram was DDR5 but I highly doubt that most people will be able to tell the difference, especially since this is using an intel CPU. I actually kind of wish this had the non Ti version of 3060 because I need more VRAM but oh well

Yes to both! I was looking for a relatively cheap home server that can handle model training.

Warning, might not get the full i7-12700 performance out of it according to people's posts on HP's forums: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Des...-p/8508489

Similar thing with both the Lenovo IdeaCentre Gaming 5i (12700/3060-12GBLHR/16GB DDR4/1TB PCIe 4) and the Dell XPS 8950 (12700/3060Ti/16GB DDR4 4400/1TB PCIe4 + 1TB HDD). Both had some level of OEM throttling (via lower power limits and/or lower temperature limits that could not be changed).

On both the Lenovo and Dell systems, my CPU benchmarks (Cinebench R23) were significantly lower than expected for a stock i7-12700 (should be around 21500 pts). I haven't seen a score posted by anyone online about this specific system, as it seems quite new with no Youtube or other in-depth reviews yet, but just be forewarned, it's advertised as an i7 but effectively it might be "like an i5" or something.

This.

The first HP desktop I purchased recently (different model) would not recognize the monitor, so after hours of hassle, I had to send it back and they sent me a new one. Was it tested before it left the factory?

The new one worked for a short time but then the PCI card starting constantly dropping the internet connection and sometimes can't even locate / identify the network (a known and common issue with HP desktops). I contacted CS and the simple solution would have been for them to send me a new PCI card (which is cheap). No, they wanted me to send in the whole desktop. Sorry, but I use this for work and can't have my desktop gone for weeks for a stupid PCI card.

Frankly, all of the big 3 (HP, Dell and Lenovo) seem to suck anymore, but I'm definitely crossing HP off of my list.

I'm hoping that the larger case, better airflow, and tower cooler with this one would minimize any throttle imposed by HP.

You can always run it without the side panel to cool things down too.

How far below 21500 were your scores and could they be improved by taking the side panel off or installing an AIO liquid cooler?

Are they software imposed because always do a clean install of Windows to get rid of ALL the bloatware? LPLs in the BIOS?

I thought so and after I watched the hp part/replace video yesterday AM, the gorgeous case, pulled the trigger. Backed by the Costco policies did not think I could go wrong...

That may only help a little. I read the 12700 is locked and depending on the mobo vendor's design choices, might not be allowed to "stay" in PL2 boost mode for any reasonable length of time. Really sucks just to save on a few realtively cheap components.

Yes fresh installs no bloatware. I don't even play games, so computers were squeaky clean minimalist setup, not even a 3rd-party browser, I just used Edge.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Gaming 5i: ~12100 pts stock
Even when I tried to max out all settings, I noticed CPU would not go above 90C, Lenovo has some type of limiter on that
Dell XPS 8950: ~15800 pts stock
I was able to reach 100C on the Dell. On the HP forum though, it seems someone complained the HP would not reach max temp either, so it might have a limiter like Lenovo

For comparison some other datapoints from other OEMs: Lenovo boost time was 28 seconds, Dell 80 seconds, I believe Intel spec is 128 seconds.
