I am not an expert but while ddr5 faster by 4 to 10% i would take the the more ram, take the ti over the base and the larger ssd here.

Don't overthink too much. Determine what's the most important factor first and it's easy to make decisions. If gaming is the most important, then Costco deal is better. If you just occasional gaming, then stick with Lenovo since you can add more to it later.

Remember as previously mentioned, hp can not really add stuff, plus its only 600 watt system. So if u are ok to stay with stock config, HP is good. Personally I don't like hp pc since they tend to break easily, but you are covered by Costco so that will be a very high incentive for me to get hp if I am in market.

I bought the Lenovo from Best Buy on Black Friday for $1000. I see this is $1000. This Costco HP has 32 GB DDR4, vs the Best Buy Lenovo 16 GB DDR5 (which I would up to 32 GB). The Costco HP does have a 3060Ti vs the Best Buy Lenovo 3060.

Thoughts? Should I get this HP Costco instead?

According to the HP website only the i9-12900 comes with the tower cooler, perhaps, depending on HP's proprietary names for things. According to Microcenter's photos of a similar system with the i7-12700, that has the tower cooler.

Anyone who gets this please let us know what type of CPU cooler it actually has.

I ordered this hp pc from the deal back in Oct. It's a good deal with those components.
However I returned it because it would crash every time it went to sleep.

-Costco has a very easy and good return policy.
-It has a really nice case. Looks great and feels really solid.
-It has 2 m2 ssd slots. One for the primary/boot ssd and another slot under the graphics card that is hard to access.
-4 ram slots. 2 are open!
-no extra sata ports
-included 1tb hd can be replaced with another hd or sata ssd
-has a 600 or 650 watt power supply
-again the case is really nice

my brother needs a desktop for office work, so I would think this is overkill. consumer reports had a te-01 model of the envy as one of their top-rated desktops. he can only spend $1k, and I'd want to update his monitor too, so this wouldn't leave any room. no idea what to look for, so would anyone share a recommendation? will mostly use Excel and QuickBooks. shouldn't need much storage. thanks!

For office work, just buy a refurbished dell optiplex off Amazon for ~$200.

You seriously don't need to drop $$$ for office work. Don't waste his money.

The plus side is that you can get one of the small form factor ones that can be mounted behind a monitor or under a desk, completely out of view

ok, thanks! had been looking at the 5000 or 5090. he works for the city, so the money was from a grant.

I have a single Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 CL22 lying around. Is there a downside in installing that DIMM in one of the 2 empty slots on this Desktop for a total of 48GB memory?

I bought this on October when it was $1200 (but it had a $300 trade-in with old laptop). I was trying to replace the main NVMe SSD, but it did not recognize it. I contacted HP and they said opening and replacing (or even adding?) a component would void the warranty. It looks like they put some hardware locks and may need to modify their firmware or something. I didn't bother and I returned it. If you plan to upgrade, you may want to keep the original components and restore back to the factory settings in case you need any warranty service.
