Can this run dual monitors and the laptop monitor?

I'm seeing nothing mentioning that and this review:

How isnt the RTX 3050ti able to run my game at anything above 1920-1080. I had an older razer with an gtx 1660ti, that was able to push above that. Dont buy if playing to play on monitor. The hdmi port isnt connected to the gpu. Waste of money

Can you supply a reference for this?

This seems extremely unlikely to me that the graphics card can't drive an external monitor.

I picked one of these up on black Friday. It si a solid machine but will need some upgrades.

The included 8GB (1x8GB , 1Rx16) ram is throw away, you will need to upgrade just to launch some games as the iGPU shares 2GB of you included 8GB and 6GB is simply not enough these days.

I suggest this 32GB (2x16GB , 2Rx8) kit from Timetec :
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098TYN...ct_details

The stock SSD is a 2242 size which can be upgraded. Used models from SK Hynix are good, there are also new options from Sabrent.

Inside the box lenovo includes the 2.5" SSD adapter to add an additional SSD.2.5" I installed a sapre drive I had laying around and the process was fairly easy. You can also add an addition 2280 / 2242 / 2230 NVMe SSD in place of the 2.5" SSD but you will need to supply a m.2 standoff.

I used this kit :
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FY8C...ct_details

I haven't run into any issues with the power brick throttling but others have, you can find compatible 170w models for around $25.

Lenovo Vantage allows for power / fan profiles and even a bit of overclocking on the GPU. ALT + Q allows you to switch power profiles on the fly. In performance mode with the OC maxed out, this laptop clocked in benchmarks on par with the fastest 3050ti models around.

Fans are a bit loud but temps are decent, I re-pasted with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaught and only dropped a degree or two so it's not worth doing IMO.

For the price you probably wont get anything better anytime soon. Highly Recommended.

How hot does the base get? My CyberPower 970M-powered laptop is excessively hot and needs a cooler and to maintain the fans at 100% to keep temps acceptable. I use my laptops as actual laptops, so I'm willing to forego more powerful GPUs for sane temps. I like to play games like Civ 6 anyway.

I have this laptop, purchased from Lenovo directly at a lower price point back on Black Friday. I threw in a 16gb dual channel kit and 170w PSU for 70 bucks and it's a great laptop.
+ Lightweight
+ Quiet for the price point
+ Runs relatively cool can actually game while having it on my lap
I definitely recommend this laptop especially if you are able to get it a little cheaper.
Which RAM kit did you go with?

It's been a minute since I last built a pc. Will someone please recommend a reasonably priced dual channel RAM for this laptop? Would adding 8 gb stick be sufficient? This setup will be for my niece that will be attending college. I assume she will use it for school work, photo/video editing and gaming. I'm not sure what laptop ram timing will work for this laptop. I have never heard of the TeamGroup manufacturer. Are they reliable? Will this one work?

There's only 1 HDMI out (this USB C port doesn't support video) so I don't think you can run 2 external monitors plus the laptop display, just 1 external monitor.

The 3050ti not being able to render to external monitor seems incorrect, I tested this by monitoring GPU usage when using only an HDMI monitor- when I fire up a game I can see the 3050ti utilization go up to 100% while the integrated GPU usage stays low.

Would this be able to handle Minecraft with Ray tracing enabled? Not sure how intense that is for a GPU…

Like someone else mentioned, the 1660ti is better than the 3050ti. So if you are looking for an upgrade in graphics look elsewhere. You'll most likely need to spend another $100+ on 3060...or just wait another year or 2 for the 4050/4050ti deals in the $600 range.

as far as external monitor, not sure, I'd expect any laptop with an hdmi out should be able to output graphics gaming fine.

To be clear this wasn't my review this was a random review as I was looking to see how many monitors the laptop can push.

thanks for the additional information however, it's helpful.

How is this compare to the BF deal in walmart for $600?

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo...gn_id=9383
The Walmart deal has a better case and better/more outputs. Otherwise, very similar. Same keyboard. I actually have the Walmart one and a Ideapad gaming but with the 6600h processor. The screen brightness is not great on either. The Ideapad seems slightly brighter (according to my wife, I can't tell) but the Legion viewing angle is better. I would imagine they were the same screen so it could just be what came out of the factory that day.

Edit: I just realized the deal here is a different version of the Ideapad gaming. I believe this one has even less ports and they are on the sides of the machine versus the back. I would keep the Walmart one for $50. If anything, the cooling should be significantly better.

I bought the Intel 12th gen laptop for my son from Adorama and bought this AMD version for my daughter. Can't say how the gaming is since I haven't had time to sit down and watch them game on anything yet, but I can say that my son can run ONE external monitor with the laptop screen on at the same time. That's enough for him as now he can run two applications at once and is a lot faster than his Chromebook from school.

We're waiting on 8 gb of ram and a 1 TB SSD for storage.

thanks for providing your PSU model

Is adding the RAM easy with a panel on the back or do you have to take off the keyboard to access it?
It's a bit of a pain, upgraded my daughters to 16 gb ram and added a 1 tb ssd nvme.

you have to remove the back screws, then screwed for a shroud in the back, then have a plastic tool or guitar pick to force the panel off. I don't plan on upgrading this thing more than once.

there is a heat spreader on the ram too, but it's easy to remove. once you get all that done, putting in the RAM and SSD NVME were a breeze. there is a screw for the SSD, no issues.

After that, when I booted it would just blink. Some sort of setting I guess, I found YT that if you hold the power down for 60 secs and then boot it fixes it.
