The discount is on the item itself, so you will get that value back when you return.

I once had to return something that I got with combined with a gift card. They deduct the value of the gift card from your return. So you'd get $15 back

I think it's adjusted for all items in the transaction. If you return 1 item that was $25. You will get $20 back.

With target gift card returns it works like this - the $10 is deducted from each item proportionally to how much it is to the total purchase, so you want to get as close to $50 as possible, as the $10/total is the percentage you get off.


For example, you get a $20 and a $30 set. The receipt should show $10 gift card, the $20 set as $16 and 2nd set as a $24 set. If you return the "$20" set, you'll only get $16 back, plus tax.

If you return both sets, you're supposed to only get $40 back. You pretty much "buy" the $10 for $10 in that scenario. This has been the case for years.

I just used a giftcard as the payment method and it included the $10 giftcard offer in my cart successfully. It says the giftcard will email after the order ships but it looks legit. If you get in on this today you can purchase a giftcard for 10% off (Which is what I did).
