Budget gaming pc. The thing I like is that it is completely upgradable and expandable. I was looking at the Costco HP with a RTX 3060 ti for 999.99. Is this better value? This would be for my 16 yr old son. I have two other cyberpower pc computers, so I am completely comfortable with the brand.

Anybody have any opinions on the value of a completely upgradeable and expandable system vs a proprietary system from like HP or Lenovo? What is that worth? Anything?

Do yourself the favor and don't go proprietary. You won't be able to swap out the motherboard either because the holes are all screwed in to different places when you go HP or Lenovo. If you're getting a prebuilt, I'd recommend a system integrater like ibuypower or cyberpower to name a few.

I wish you had placed a link to the one at Costco you are talking about. However, I am not sure why you say the HP is proprietary. I personally have not seen any desk top, tower type computers that are proprietary. The 3060 on the Costco computer is taking a pcie slot and a feed from the power supply that a upgraded gpu would also use. The ram is going to be DDR4 and you can add more to the HP if needed and at worse you would have to remove memory to add more, but but all of the tower type computers I have seen at Costco or Sams have 4 slots. Power supplies are really the only thing I have seen that is proprietary and that is only in some of the really small or unique cases, if you needed to upgrade the power supply it would be about $70 or less and that would get you a better one then what came with either computer. If its fan headers or usb-c ports the HP motherboard doesn't have then that could be $80 to $100 for a new better then either computer come with, motherboard. You would also likely have the cost of windows $50? if you upgraded your motherboard, but maybe not. You mentioned the 3060 vs 3050.in the Cyberpower and that's about a $75 difference. But I personally don't see that the HP is proprietary so I do not see any value in the Cyberpower's upgradeability.
