Ignoring all the talk about hacks and stuff, just speaking about the M12 Surge impact driver - this thing is awesome. I have a massive Milwaukee collection and basically all of the M18 and M12 impact driver generations, and the M12 Surge is my favorite.

It's small and lightweight, very comfortable to use, and it is noticeably quieter and less fatiguing to use. The youtube video comparisons you are probably watching don't do it justice. That isn't to say it's silent, but it is a big difference compared to a traditional impact.

It doesn't lack in power, either - I built a 5 stall horse barn with the M12 Surge as my go-to impact driver. Unless you are driving major lag screws all day, this is going to be more than sufficiently fast and powerful - normal homeowner tasks where you are doing deck screws or similar, it's perfect.

Highly recommended and IMHO $129 with a battery is a good price, maybe I will get a second one...

Home depot needs to up their game. These recent "deals", including this one, leave a lot to be desired...

10% military works too, for those who qualify. Brings price down to $116.10 before tax.

Reviews said Surge and Fuel are about the same, just the Surge is quieter. I wouldn't go out of my wya to get a surge if I already had the fuel. I got a good deal on my Surge locally so I gave my fuel to my dad.

I thought the tests showed the surge put out a decent amount of power over its advertised amount?

I have the surge and non surge m18 drivers and the non surge 12. This is tempting just to get it over with and get it in the tool box so I can finally sleep at night lol.

This and a chainsaw are all I need.

And the pruner. That's it I swear just those three things.

I've had the M12 surge since 2018. I highly recommend everyone pick up a hydraulic impact. It doesn't have to be this one... There is also the M18 Surge, Ryobi, Rigid, and Makita make one too if you're into those batteries. You will not want to use regular impacts once you get used to the reduced noise of these tools!

Got this in the past for much cheaper via "the hack" which is not to uncommon. Yes you want the Surge not the regular Impact, even tho the new version does have a lot of nice features. At its core the Surge is significantly nicer to use just because of the audio aspect, you don't have to go grab earmuffs every time you use it...which if you're buying M12 its usually at the core of its functionality (light, quick, infrequent).

Honestly the higher noise impacts aren't a deal breaker, its just a nice have the power is about the same. So unless you're working late and don't want to disturb others or something not a big deal. I wouldn't spend more on it, but I would spend the same on it for sure. My M12 set use case is (light, quick, frequent). I think saying you need earmuffs for the fuel version is a bit of an exaggeration.

I have the m18 fuel impact driver already, will I notice the power difference?
Your M18 Fuel definitely has more power but M12 Surge will be a lot quieter, and with the compact battery, it's lighter and more compact than your bigger brother. If your concern is noise level, then this would be a good addition to what you have but based on power alone you are set.

They're talking about this one:

Return the battery and it would come to $97 I believe. You can also call within the first 30 minutes of making the order and cancel the battery and avoid having to return the battery -- or so I've read, I've just taken them back to the local store since I'm in there at least weekly anyway.

This is actually an awesome deal. I bought this driver for $100 with the hack a while back but that was tool only. Would rather have bought this with the new high output battery

Earmuffs for the fuel? Yeah that's a huge exaggeration. I have tinnitus and the fuel doesn't aggravate it at all
