You don't have to be shopping with your points but you need to have your card enrolled or you get nothing
I'm doing the same because I've only been getting these 15% off offers while a lot of people appear to be getting 40%-50% off offers
The worse part about these offers is not getting emails about them so if you go days without shopping at amazon you end up completely missing them

Looks like the discount % and $ max vary for different accounts. I qualified for 15% (max $15) earlier this December.
