the price is low but the Nest Hub is slow too.

Please have expectation this is not any faster than a 10 year old Nokia.

I think they are trying to to phase this out and replace it with a Pixel Tablet + dock. The driving idea is you might as well put that tablet that's sitting under your sofa to work.

Just finished my transition from Alexa to Google this afternoon after picking up a Nest Hub for $50 and a Lenovo Smart Clock 2 for $35... jumped on one of these and will return the Lenovo Clock. The device is decent, but after only 4 hours of being set up, it's disconnected from wifi twice - I'd rather have the nicer screen anyway.

Also, FWIW, I couldn't be happier to have made the switch. Got so sick of Alexa following up with useless suggestions after I asked her the weather and constantly trying to sell me things on the screen.

While I generally like the Nest Hub (when it's working), mine restarts at least 4 times a day. That is not an exaggeration. It also gets stuck on the "No connection. Check your internet" screen very often, even though everything else is connected and having no problems. I have to unplug it and plug back in, then it immediately connects again. Those problems started within a few days of buying it, but I was too lazy to exchange it. Yes, it's up to date. No, I didn't do anything to cause those issues. I'm not an electronics noob. I just got one of the buggy ones. It's unfortunately relatively common with these. As long as you get a good one, this is a great price.
You may have gotten a lemon. We've had 2 in our home for 2 years now, and have had zero problems with either. We also have 3 Google home mini's for the past 3 years and also zero problems.

My use case, like everyone's use case, is very different. I put this in my kitchen for a few basic features:
Adding items to a grocery list via voice
playing youtube videos while I do dishes/cook
asking simple questions (how many cups in a gallon, etc)
whats the weather outside?
doubling as a loudish bluetooth speaker

It does all these well, I dont know about the hub features.

Super tempted to get this as a bedside clock. I've been using one in my kitchen for a few years now and definitely agree with others that it's slow and clunky (granted, it's a gen 1 model). We sleep to rain sounds at night, so that might be a bit jarring if what people are saying about the frequent restarts is true. I've never caught my current model restarting by itself, but Google Home products can be wonky, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Great price though, gonna have to simmer on this a bit. You can cast Youtube and Plex to them, I've watched entire movies (that I've seen before) while making more complex dishes.

I have 2 first gen hubs along with 2 echo show 5's. Though i personally liked google hub as it can play youtube, lately one of them turns off automatically and turns on automatically after couple of hours. The other one screen died after 1 year. Google support denied to replace them as they are out of warranty. Where as i could able upgrade both of my echo shows to newer ones for just $10 each after trade-in the older ones. Other reason to go with echos is google hubs doesn't support ring cameras.

Best digital photo frame… If you use Google Photos it creates automatic and changing slide shows on all the devices. No need to do anything manually. Have a bunch of these around the house with the Mics turned off solely to use as picture frames.

And they don't have cameras like the Echo devices.

Original price has been around $50 all year round, it's a scam how they can just named the price and "mark down "🤣

I'm tempted, but....

I had two of the Gen 1 units and after a few months both of them developed color banding on the screen. They were still usable, but the screens were a mess.

I have read others had this problem with the Gen 1s, but I never heard of anyone with this problem on the Gen 2.

Worth a try I guess at this price.

Wow, seems like a solid deal. Bought just the Hub earlier this year for $50ish. Good digital clock to have on my desk in my room and I stream local sports radio stations through Audacy. And my household is pretty much all Home enabled so it's nice to have control over that, either by voice or by using the smart home menu on the Hub and just manually turning things on and off.

Steal at $39.

I will say that some people warned me about frequent restarts. I have noticed that the Hub will restart around 1-3 AM multiple times a week. No noise is made and it doesn't seem to be an abrupt restart like something crashed. It just shows a shutdown animation, which I'll catch from the side of my eye and it'll restart within 20 seconds and everything will be fine.

Some people use the Hub to play white noise and fall asleep and they'd be interrupted by the restart almost-nightly. So I can't speak to that but it does restart a few times a week but I only notice it post-midnight and before waking up in the morning.
For those experiencing restarts: Try changing the power supply to a third party one with higher available amperage.

The ones Google packs with their smart devices often have issues supplying enough power for the CPU and the display. The device just falls flat on its face and restarts without proper power for all the components.

I've even had several first gen supplies fail completely.
