the price is low but the Nest Hub is slow too.

Please have expectation this is not any faster than a 10 year old Nokia.

I think they are trying to to phase this out and replace it with a Pixel Tablet + dock. The driving idea is you might as well put that tablet that's sitting under your sofa to work.

So I purchased on about two years ago and got a LED smart light bulb to go with it.

One day I said, set the brightness to 10% (I was talking about the light bulb) and the display dimmed to a point where I can barely read it. When I said raise the brightness to 90%, it now made the light bulb at 90% level.... this happened about 2 months ago. To this very day, I can not change the brightness level and it seems to be stuck at 10%. I am sure I can reset everything and reinstall everything... surely that would fix the problem but I am too busy and too lazy.

Oh well.... now I just say "GOOGLE WHAT TIME IS IT" instead of looking at the hub that I can not read most of the time.
Swipe up from bottom of hub to reveal volume and brightness controls. As long as you can make something out you can raise brightness by tapping

Using an older but snappy Android phone with access to all automation apps. 100% discount. Tell me where I got it wrong.

I have the 1st generation we mainly use it as a speaker. I could use another one as an alarm for this price.

Is this better than the Echo show 8? I just got that and returning it for this deal
Depends on what you need it for. I had ring cameras and I can tell you after living with an echo show for a while, it's a stupid POS I can't wait to smash with a hammer. If this is the future of AI, we are screwed. Moved, never hooked up the cameras and unplugged it and we don't miss it. Think I may pick up one of these.

Love this thing. Been using the gen 1 as a digital photo album/frame in my home office.

Sync it up with Google Photo and there you go!

This is pretty much the exact opposite situation I had. Had Alexa stuff for 2-3, got tired of the terrible recognition, slowness, and other random crap. Replaced it all with Google hubs and minis. It's not perfect but it's been a far smoother and more enjoyable experience. And that's nothing to say about all the Amazon ads and crap on Alexa.
Same, Alexa is the stupidest POS I've ever used. That worthless scrap pile never understands anything and is constantly showing crap I don't want despite my best efforts to remove all of it. If you did any reading, Amazon was also super shady with their ring program. Not that google is to be trusted lol. I will say though the show was at least good with the basic automations like turning stuff on and off, but, isn't that the barr minimum we should expect out of it?

I wish Google would add quick phrases [google.com] to this model.

does anyone know if these are integrated with google nest cams? Like, will motion notifications popup and show the motion on the screen for instance?

For those experiencing restarts: Try changing the power supply to a third party one with higher available amperage.

The ones Google packs with their smart devices often have issues supplying enough power for the CPU and the display. The device just falls flat on its face and restarts without proper power for all the components.

I've even had several first gen supplies fail completely.
Interesting. I'll look in to it if it gets to be a real problem for me. So far, it's just resetting late night or early morning when I'm not really using it

YMMV but bought 2 for $68 using the $10 promo (as seen on other Walmart threads). Promo codes WOWFRESH, PayPal and more.

Sorry, which codes are those?

You can change the phrase using Google Home. Instead of saying "hey google" I only say "google" now. Google home controls all of your google devices. I also have the Nest router and point. Several google devices throughout my house.

i have both and use alexa for all home automation and google for searches. i also have ring/alarm/camera eco system and it integrates nicely with alexa with features that use echos as additional sensors. alexa has more third party integrations. google recently killed off life360 integration. you can ask alexa where someone is and it will reply with the address/location, whether they are stationary or driving and how long it will take to drive to/from that location.
I just wanted to note that I've been able to overcome most Google Home automations by using Home Assistant. The one thing that I have not been able to overcome is getting Google Home to return information from Home Assistant.

Can this show a large timer and keep showing it as it counts down? The Echo Show goes back to showing ads with the timer being tiny.
