This Dewalt 20V combo kit includes the DCD708 drill and the DCF809 impact driver. Kit includes two 20V batteries and charger. At least $10 higher on other sites including Home Depot and Amazon.

100% agree ... Also these two are kinna in the middle... Big enough but not the best like the XRs. Smaller but not the compact like the 12v. Cheaper but not exactly a crazy deal either.....
My boss used the 12V as an electrician unless he needed the big boy to drill through beams. I bought the DCF877 because it is almost that light. Without the battery, I don't think it's more than an ounce heavier. Then the battery can be a bit heavier. This is a good introductory set. Does a good amount of work for lesser money.
I don't see the 12V on sale much. I bought the impact to keep in my car because it's cheap, paid $50 last BF, and I'm not as concerned about losing it compared to the 20V DCF877. I actually lost it, bought another for $83 and it's still new. Great unit, I built a shed with it. Could break your lugs loose if not tightened down as much as I do. I bought the 1200 ftlb impact for $173, because I have an E-450 bus.
Another problems is with the 12v line the variety of tools is not good. Sander, saws, vacuums, fans, lights, most are not available in 12v.
12V dewalt is the most underrated tool line in existence. Loved it since release.
Yes dewalt doesn't have torque wrenches or cordless nailers in 12V like milwaukee, but variety doesn't make the line….the tools dewalt has in 12v far exceed any other brand in durability, power and ergonomics.

The tools are great, light, sturdy and compact. These are enough for most homeowner jobs, beyond this you are probably looking for industrial size tools The atomic size is very convenient in tight spaces, like cabinets or wall attachments.
This is a great deal.

I ended up with the compact XR line which weighs more but a lot of power
I was drilling in big bolts with the impact driver in the garage beam for my 100 pound ringside heavy punching bag last week. I still made a pilot hole but these bolts were very thick and needed the impact driver power. I have impact sockets for metric but I don't have standard impact sockets. I used my regular craftsman sockets and was like "Please don't shatter" before I pulled the trigger. Always wear googles no matter what drilling/driving you doing. It worked perfectly fine. Easy and smooth like butter. All those years without an impact driver. I should have bought it many years ago.
I got the Dewalt black and gold 14 piece drill bit set for like $10 and the DEWALT Tough Grip Steel Hex Shank Bit Set (27-Piece) for like $10 as well at the time last year. I highly recommend them as well.

I dunno what you're talking about I've used 12v to reroof an entire mobile home, install doors, drive 8" screws through beams zero issues, so studs have never been an issue. I haven't had to use an 18v or 20v in years. The only thing that was a challenge was drilling through concrete, but the latest 12v Milwaukee hammer brushless does it wish ease. Just about the only thing that I needed more power on and it was a big rusty bolt on an old waste disposal but that was before brushless came out.
