good price but my wife's 4 and even this both broke at the cheaply made clasp that connects the screen to the wristband. on the 4 we repaired with fitbit twice. the 5 we were going to do the same but she lost it at an event cause the clasp fell off.
I have this watch. The subscription just offers you more in-depth analysis of the data from the band and recommended workouts. Gps, eda, ECG, sleep tracking and all activities don't need a subscription to work.
The Fit Premium page [fitbit.com] breaks it down further but a quick overview indicates that without the subscription, "Basic insights" into "Health and fitness stats" such as activity, weight, sleep and nutrition are included for the past 7 days. Beyond that, the subscription offers:

Daily Readiness Score
Premium challenges
Stress Management Score breakdown
Health metrics trends for the past 90 days
Wellness Report
Advanced skin temperature details (Sense only)
200+ workouts
200+ mindfulness sessions
Sleep Score breakdown
Blood glucose trends

I heard a lot of people have skin burn with this model. Is it a problem in general for most wrist bands or this one in particular?

The Charge 5 is a piece of junk. There is a known issue with the battery/software/firmware and after 8 months there is no resolution. Fitbits solution is to turn off all the features to make the battery last longer than a couple hours!! Huh??

https://community.fitbit.com/t5/C...20/page/79

Even though Fitbit has marked this "solved" it is not.

Fitbit is terrible overpriced and junk. They are the worst. Don't buy. Buy a smart watch like apple or if you need to save money buy one of those Chinese knock off ones cause I got one and it beats the heck out of any fitbit junk.

I've had my fitbit Charge 2 for about 6 years (replaced once), but the screen finally died last night (it actually still works, but I have to open the app to see what's going on).
Not sure if this will help you but I have a Charge 3 and on rare occassions the screen would not come on although the watch was working and tracking as in your case. This was a known software issue. The resolution was to put the watch in its charging cradle (whille charging) and to reset it by holding the button on the side down for 10 seconds. Maybe worth a try?

I appreciate that and I'm familiar with the reset process. I've been able to do that and that's how I know it's actually charging. I saw the screen glitch out right before the screen died, so it seems moisture or something finally got inside. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it opens up easily, but I haven't looked yet.

Two posts in a year and you come up with that... WHY do you feel they're junk?

Wore a Charge 3... and then a Charge 4 for year. Both worked great and never gave me any issues. Cheap... reliable... and good (5 day) battery life. Just got the Amazon deal on the Sense 2 and am quite happy with it.

Wife has an Inspire 2 (replaced an Inspire HR that did die after 18 months, but was under extended warranty) that's been great as well... small, functional and 1 week battery life.

I feel they're junk because my $20 Chinese ebay watch has a 10x better battery life than the fitbit charge 5. The fitbit charge 5 band design is also really stupid mine fell off my wrist at work and I never found it. My mom wears a $40 Amazon bought (also Chinese made) smart watch with every feature the fitbit has and more as well as 5x better battery life. I'm glad you enjoy your fitbit though nothing wrong with that. I enjoyed my fitbit charge 2 the most though except the band had durability issues.

I definitely have to be mindful to not get a rash from this band. Usually have to take off for a few hours every few days and wash the band really well. (I take it off every day when I shower but only rinse the band then).

Google acquired Fibit last year so your data is going to be used and sold. I own the Charge 4 for 3 years and I would agree with other comments about the broken clasps, battery life, and skin irritation. Last year I had to super glued the band to the actual device and I know it's about to die. I got my fitbit from Costco with the additional band just like this post. Decent watch for the price, but I won't get the 5.

Any thought about the AmazFit 7 for $40?

I have had a mi band 4 5 and 6. I have liked them way better than my wife's fitbits. They tend to be more flexible I.e. lots more different screen choices. But their software is a bit less polished

It's not a bird it's a reaction of the salts and moisture produced by your skin with your skin. Unfortunately most fitness trackers trap some of the moisture and salts underneath them when being worn. It is not unique to any particular fitness tracker for instance my wife has a Garmin venue to us and it causes her a lot of skin rash and "burn". Some people just have really sensitive wimpy skin.
Unfortunately it is the nature of fitness trackers to have a pretty tight fit with a smooth glass like surface
