Great price but most of the reviews state it isnt consistant speeds and has frequent drops.

I wonder if this is portable as long as you have an oulet for power?

I had this from its inception, originally it wasn't too bad-as time went on the signal got worse and buffered like nuts, 3 TV's a pc and phone. I finally gave up after 7 months and terrible to non-existent customer service. The price is definitely tempting, btw, their newer modem was worst than their first, I had a pc fan underneath to cool it down, no difference.

If true it's a no brainer. I have the service. You can expect 100mbs-300mbs. Down time nonexistent.

So far my service sucks. Great price, horrible on consistency. I am 1.1 miles from the t-mobile tower in a not too densely populated area. My phone will get 100-200mbps on its own. Hooked to my black tower, it can range from non-existent to under 10lbs to 100+ mbps on the odd occasion. They already swapped out the black tower box for me once. Coming from a consistent 18-20mbps ADSL line, which I did not drop yet. Glad for that. The only thing I can think off, is that there a is utility substation with two communication towers 1/10th of a mile from me in line of sight with the t-mobile tower location. But why would the 5G phone work with such great throughput while the HSI box not????
I'd take an inverter and get to the other side and see what happens. Then maybe test a mile or two away on the other side of the tower. I'd also test near the tower to get a baseline of you max possible speeds. You also need to look at the signal readings on the router. Also, what phone are you using?

Put the T Mo unit outside the house, pointing toward the tower. Rotating the unit by 5 degree can significantly improve reception. Connect a PC/notebook directly to the T Mo unit using the yellow LAN connector. Try the other sides of the house if transmission speed is poor. Test during off peak hours to obtain max capability of the network at your location. Performance should be par with cell phone during off peak hours.

I just got my unit and my best signal is 3 bars which means 100Mb down and 10 up. I drove around and found 4 bars which took me to 250Mb down and 20 up. I switched to my 5g phone and got 600Mb down from the same location, so they definitely limit your speeds on the home device. The unit took no time at all to setup. This may be a great deal for a casual user, but I'm stuck with spectrum until fiber arrives.

I get around 50% faster speeds on my phone. Surprised it is that deprioritized in your area. If I am hitting close to 600 on my phone, the router is getting 400+. If I am seeing 300 or so on my phone, the router is getting around 200. That's pretty much the slowest I ever see during peak.

Construction of the walls, microwave running, size and orientation of transmitting/receiving antenna etc. Having another strong WiFi radio nearby can also affect WiFi speed. 2.4GHz has greater penetration. 5GHz greater speed.

I use LAN cable for a device that requires maximum speed and stability. Other WiFi devices are connected via the 2.4GHz band. No need to broadcast the 5GHz band.
Another thing you can do if you use a separate router, and it has the feature, is to set certain devices as a priority so they are guaranteed to get the best signal and throughput. If wireless is your only option.

I got my mom and sister new routers for Christmas and set up my sister's already. She was using xfintity's router and has buffering every now and then. Doesn't help the family room is outside the exterior wall of the house. SO I set up the kitchen and family room tv to have priority.

She was using an extender in the kitchen wirelessly from the gateway upstairs. So of course the tv's would get a crap signal.

My next step is to move the gateway into the basement and run Ethernet up to her basement entrance and place the router up by the ceiling. It's about dead center in the house and nothing would be over 20-25ft away at any point in the house.

Got them the TP-Link AX21 wifi6 router. At the tv's, at least from my phone, I was getting over 300mb/s on the 5ghz band with her 400mb xfinity service.

So if you have the tmo router, place it in the highest, best place in the house where you can drop an Ethernet cable down to a more central location in the house to put a wireless router. Treat it like a cable modem that's placement dependent. Or hack it, run mimo antennas outside. If you already have an outdoor TV antenna, mount the mimo antennas on the same mast and run the wire with your coax into the house. If it's in the basement then, drill a hole in the basement ceiling up into a closet or run it to the ceiling of the basement entrance and pop the wifi router there.

LOL I can't even rely on consistent cell service in my major metro area. Waiting on "vendors" for equipment. Had 1 or 2 bars with either emergency only or LTE signal on and off for 2 months! Fortunately I have fiber wifi that saves the day with wifi calling

I picked this up yesterday as I've been having issues with my comcast connection.
So far the service has been pretty stable.

Here's my comments so far:
- Speeds are ranging around 250down 15 up.
- Router is VERY locked down, the only thing that can be changed is the wifi properties (SSID, 2.4|5ghz, security method) No way to disable the radios or specify specific channels, you can not broadcast a SSID but you'll effectively lock yourself out of the router, requiring a hard reset.
- Cannot configure port forwarding or DMZ (if you use another router you're forced using double nat, exposing anything directly to the internet would require configuring VPN on your other router)
- Only configurable via Mobile Phone App (what little there is to configure)

The service itself has been pretty reliable though with no drops or connectivity problems.
Assuming I can get my issues with comcast resolved, for $25/Mo I'll likely keep this around as a failover/backup internet connection (when there's an outage or I go over my data cap).

I'm also considering modding the unit so that I can add an external antenna mounted on the side of my house pointed towards a cell tower. That's roughly $300 though for the antenna + cables

This deal has been the bane of my existence so far..

The router was initially sent to a different family member who's on the same family plan but located on the other side of the country. It was delivered without a signature (was told it would require one) and was left outside in the freezing cold. After it was dropped off and returned at the nearest t-mobile store still sealed and boxed up, an e-mail receipt acknowledgment was received the same day.

Today I received another automated t-mobile e-mail saying that the shipment received was damaged and that it would be sent back to the original shipped address. T-mobile rep I spoke with after said there is nothing in their records that shows anything about any damages on their end just that it was returned successfully.....and on and on...

Pro tip: For anyone calling in to sign up for this deal, I strongly suggest you call during regular work hours to speak with a U.S based rep instead of the after hours rep that are located internationally who usually take over after hours. They messed up the order even though I went over the delivery address with them a thousand times. In retrospect, this whole mess would've been avoided if I'd done that and I'm relatively sure I would've received it here in Sunny Las Vegas intact well over a week ago.

It has been a week using the service but my account doesn't show $25 discount but only $5 autopay discount. On promo page, it says 2022 HINT P22 Enrolled though.

I have a corporate discount on my account. Is there anyone with corporate discount has $25 discount showing up?

The reps said I could and it would be fine. There is a GPS in it they can technically see where it is. But it'be nice to take it to the shore or mountain house and not worry about internet.

would it automatically connect, or do you have to do something to it for each new location?

For those that want to pay only $10/month for this, you only have a few more days to sign up. See the thread about $10 'tablet' data line for instructions
