Probably not The AMD 7 series. Since these are 12th gen Intels and 13th are the new ones. Maybe with AMD 5th gen ryzen. 5600x, 5800x, etc. AMD did drop there 5th gen prices. I just snagged a 5800x for $199 on sale down from $450 at Microcenter. Right now seems like a good time for last gen tech (which honestly is still great tech and value). Just my opinion.

the 12700k is a better CPU mostly due to additional cores. The 12600k I build has no trouble overclocking to 5.2ghz on all cores. I decided to go 5.3 on 2 cores with the rest a 5.1ghz. (It makes it easier to cool and most of my games are heavier on a single core.)

For 50$ you may want to get the 12700k but this logic starts to lead you do the 13600k. The beauty of this deal is bang/buck.

For roughly 350$ you have a cpu, motherboard, ram (32gig) and a cpu cooler.

I bought the thermalright FC140 and it has been very good. I bought it for roughly 40$ around prime day.

I was just looking at this combo. I do not want to build a gaming machine. I need a new work-at-home system with plenty of power for lots of VMs. Docker containers etc.

My current system is almost 8 years old.

Thanks for the reply, I bought a 5800x for 200$ but the motherboard I have doesn't work (I bought a refurbished b550 for 24$), I have about a month to return the mb but before I'm going to try and get msi to fix it under the warranty (if possible), but as there is missing a tag msi probably won't fix it.
So I was thinking getting this as it's very close to a 5800x and it would mean the mb would only come out to 50$ (and that seems quite cheap for this kind of nice lga1700 mb).

They are close with the 12600k leading in about 20% performance and having additional cores. This deal is very good imo. Only hangup would be ddr4 but (for me) thats not a deal breaker. I dont think you'd regret buying this combo. Keep in mind you'll need a cpu cooler if you dont have one already. That will add some $ to the deal.

Well, if I had money I would buy this to replace my 11700K just due to the temps and power efficiency. At 125-145W I get 56-82*C idle to load.
